This is by far one of my favorite remodel projects. Not only do we get the opportunity to work with a 100+ year old farmhouse (built by the owner’s family members way back when), but we also get to make the attic space a large useable space by adding 2 bedrooms and a bathroom to the new upstairs!

A few technical notes:
- we started by shoring up the foundation.
- Once the foundation was shored up, then we moved up to level one, shoring up existing walls and adding new walls
- Then finally were able to get up to the attic to shore up the ceiling/floor joists for level 2.
- it’s taken about 2 months from the start of foundation work to now.
- All structural work is engineered and inspected by a licensed engineer.

Our Story

It all began in the 1960's with Willie Hall… After graduating High School from Round Top-Carmine High School, Willie attended Blinn College in Brenham on a basketball scholarship and studied to one day become a coach. But that all changed when he began working for Odell Lueckemeyer during his time at Blinn. After graduation, he continued to learn every facet of the home building and remodeling industry while with Lueckemeyer. Toward the end of his 5 year career with Luekemeyer he began to have his own entrepreneurial ambitions.

In the summer of 1964, Willie went into the construction business for himself. He started out with smaller jobs, including installing and repairing roofs, and doing home repair and remodeling work. In 1965 Willie built his first new home. Soon, word spread of Hall construction and its commitment to pleasing and satisfying their customer's construction needs, and the rest is history.

Russell Hall, Willie’s grandson, was born and raised in Brenham, Texas. After he graduated from Brenham High School in 2005 he continued his education. Russell attended Blinn College in Brenham for two years. While attending Blinn, Russell worked at Triple C Sheet metal where he fabricated and installed air ducts for residential and commercial applications. After Blinn, Russell attended Texas State University where he graduated with a BS in Industrial Technology - Construction Technology. While at Texas State, Russell worked part-time for two years in the engineering department of one of the largest manufacturers of high torque transmission couplings in the World, TB Wood’s Incorporated™. Also, during his time at Texas State, Russell served as the President and Ambassador of the Associated General Contractor of America - Student Chapter (AGC). He also served as the Head of the Community Outreach Committee for the Construction Student Association (CSA), in which he received the "Leadership & Service Award" in 2011 and 2012. Russell participated in the Associated Schools of Construction/TEXO Region V: Design/Build Competition and received the Outstanding Achievement Award in 2011. In the Summer of 2010, Russell went to work as a stone mason with his uncle, the late Jack Finke. Russell describes this Summer to, undoubtedly be, the most memorable Summer of his life. Russell had no previous experience as a rock mason, and his first project was a front walkway. He started as the “cutter”, cutting bricks into little squares for the masons to place in the border of the walkway. Progressing through the steps of the trade, after the “cutter”, then learning the “mixer” role, then the mason, then the foreman, and so on. As Russell was progressing through the ranks, from cutting bricks, to eventually meeting with clients and running jobs, Russell’s Uncle Jack’s battle with cancer was beginning to take its toll on the legendary rock mason. Two weeks after Russell returned to class, he received a phone call that his Uncle Jack had passed. Russell explains how he learned that life is more than just laying rocks as fast as you can, but rather, take the necessary time to place each stone perfectly, be selfless, be a true mason. Russell always refers back to a favorite saying of his Uncle Jack, “No muy rapido, mucho perfecto” meaning, not very fast, but very perfect. In the Summer of 2011, Russell had the opportunity to participate in an internship with Luis Cercos, owner of LC Architects in Madrid, Spain. The internship consisted of the rehabilitation and remodel, from what was then a theatrical theatre, to what is now a classical music theatre by the name of Palacio de la Musica, in downtown Madrid. Russell worked closely with Luis and the Construction Manager to ensure the project was running safely, on time, within budget, and to the utmost standard of quality. Similar to Russell’s Uncle Jack, Sr. Cercos also expressed importance of taking adequate time to complete a task, to not rush, because rushing will only cause mishaps which is unsafe and costly. After graduating from Texas State University in the Spring of 2012, Russell started work as a Field Engineer for one of the most prominent general contractors in America, Hensel Phelps Construction Co. His first project was 2400 Nueces, a $64M, 300k+ square foot, high rise including 304 units for UT graduate students, staff and upper classmen, approximately 19,000 square feet of ground level commercial space, rooftop patios, and 533 spaces of structured parking. Russell’s second project was the USAF MQ-9 Maintenance Hangar on Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, NM. Which was a $20M, 62,000 square foot, maintenance hangar for un-manned aircraft, the MQ-9 Reaper. While in this role, Russell gained experience which furthered his knowledge and skills in construction technology. Russell looks forward to applying his knowledge and skill to his endeavor of continuing the Hall family tradition of building quality custom homes, remodels, and additions for your family.
