Just finished this custom double edge dagger. Surrounded by four symmetric hollow ground bevels, a prominent central ridge sticks through the etched feather damascus. A damascus cross gaurd sets the transition into the G10 & acrylic framed handle. A small pommel places the balance directly at the gaurd.

This really challenged me to think outside of the knives I normally make, and it was so worth it.

Much of blacksmithing is about hammer control and reading the steel as you work. Oftentimes, undesired curves, marks, dings, and unevenness are all a result of a lack of hammer control. Most times, this can be easily addressed by fixing body position; but it is crucial to read the steel and what work you have done to look for the proper corrections.
One of the most common ways this plays out is like this- this student was just a little bit of out flat with her hammer strikes, meaning one edge got thinned much more than the other and led to the bar curving away from that side. Counteract these bends by forging evenly and learning to adjust on the fly.
