It's National Farmers Market Week!

Behind every stand of fresh produce is a season of careful planning, hard work, and smart water management.

At EarthScout, we're proud to support growers with tools that help them make informed irrigation decisions, conserve water, and grow healthy crops.

Be sure to visit your local farmers market this week and support the people who put the food on our tables!

Smart irrigation month is in full swing! Ever thought about how healthier soils can impact irrigation?

Building organic matter, planting cover crops, and reducing tillage all work together to improve soil health. Healthier soils infiltrate and hold more water, meaning more resilience during dry spells.

Small changes below the surface can make a big difference above it.

When over watering occurs, so can runoff. When water runs off the field, you are not only losing water but also fertilizer, organic matter, and topsoil!

To reduce run off try incorporating vegetative filter strips around fields, planting cover crops or reducing tillage. These methods can slow water down and allow it to soak into the soil to be used up by plants.

Did you know?

Federal and state cost-share funding is available to help cover the cost of irrigation technologies like soil moisture sensors!

That means you could get funds to pay for tools that save water, money, and improve efficiency.

Funding varies by location, so check in with your local NRCS or conservation district office to see what's available near you!

Efficient irrigation isn't just about using less water, it's about using what you have in the most efficient way possible.

Keep the 4 Rs of irrigation in mind:

Right Source – where does you water come from and what's in the water
Right Rate – how much water do you need to apply
Right Time - water when the soil (and crop) actually needs it
Right Place – distribute water evenly and where it is needed most

Soil moisture sensors give you real time data to get all 4 right, the right amount, at the right time, in the right place, no matter your water source.
It all starts with knowing what's happening below ground.
