At Nickel City Polymers, Inc., we've been in the plastic recycling business for 25 years.
As many of you know, for most of our "recycling years," we concentrated on 2 materials, nylon and acetal.

I'm happy to share that we've expanded our recycling capabilities now that we are located in Greenville, South Carolina.

We recognized a need to keep recycling locally.
Short story time:

~ We were contacted by a processor about an hour away from us here in South Carolina who wanted to speak to us about their scrap plastic materials. They were generating a variety of materials and accumulating about a truckload every 3 weeks. What they told us was they were paying $2500 in freight to ship their scrap to another state. I immediately explained to them that we could save them that freight right off the top and pay them for the scrap they were generating. Done deal. We are keeping their scrap local, processing it local, and saving them a TON of money ~

In 8 short months, since arriving in Greenville, SC, we have set up our local network to include:

🚛 Trucking ~ Local trucks servicing the area with the ability to drop trailers at local plants. Why drop trailers? When scrap accumulates, it will be loaded directly on a trailer saving warehouse space. When the trailer is full, we come pick it up. Boom 💥

⚙️ Grinding ~ We currently have the ability to grind all types of plastic materials. Within our local network, we have partnered with 2 different local grinding companies. Grind local, like the tagline. Is that a tagline? Well, it is now.

🏢 Warehousing ~ Our office is located inside a 30,000 square foot warehouse. This gives us the ability to accumulate scrap directly at our location. We control the schedule. We control the process. Our guy Jason has us covered and we are overwhelmed having such a great person to work with. Our warehouse game is top notch.

I'm proud of what we've accomplished in the local recycling space so far, and I can't wait to see where we go. Building a highly productive local network in 8 months is a huge win for us.

Keeping recycling local not only spurs the local economy, it also creates efficiency in the process.

If you are a local plastic processing company located in the Southeast, we welcome your inquiry.

Too many people on the "ban plastic" bandwagon lately.

Without plastics, many advances in the medical industry wouldn't have been possible.

Just a few examples below (taken from mpo-mag.com)

1. Sterility

Plastics have been used widely to create medical tools and devices like surgical gloves, syringes, insulin pens, IV tubes, catheters, inflatable splits, etc. Such products are created for one-time use and help prevent the spread of dangerous diseases by eliminating the need to sterilize and re-use a device.

Plastic is also being used to create special antimicrobial touch surfaces that can repeal bacteria and other microbes, thus reducing the spread of dangerous diseases. In fact, antimicrobial plastic is known to have an extremely high effectiveness in killing bacteria and is able to eliminate pathogens even when said surfaces aren’t regularly cleaned.

2. Enhanced Safety

The durable nature of plastics allows for its application in the creation of medical safety devices, such as tamper-proof caps on medical packaging, blister packs, and various medical waste disposal bags. Plastics are also shatter-proof and thus make for a convenient storage and transportation option. Additionally, plastics can be used to effectively preserve the integrity of other materials, by the use of protective coatings. For instance, plastics are widely used to create non-permeable biohazard bags to transport materials such as medical waste.

3. Increased Comfort

Previously, the healthcare industry used metal or metallic medical devices, especially in the field of prosthetics. Now, owning to the durability and versatility of plastic, it is now used as a replacement to such metal components. Plastics not only provide improved comfort but also provide specialized solutions that allow for healthier and normal lives. For example, patients who are allergic to certain metals have benefitted from sterile, hypo-allergenic plastic, which allows for better care and treatment.

4. Innovative Applications

Since plastic can be molded per the requirement of a specific application, it is also being used to develop new medical devices. Plastics are now being used in surgical devices and procedures, and products like modern pacemakers, stents, or joint replacement devices due to its ability to adapt to the tiniest and most intricate molds.

5. Cost-Effectiveness

Plastics can not only be mass-produced at cost-effective rates, but also allow for a wider range of applications, making it a worthwhile investment. And while metal-based medical devices are prone to wear and tear as well as corrosion, plastic can be treated to withstand such stress and avoid such circumstances. This not only reduces the costs incurred while creating metal devices but also reduces the time and effort that would otherwise go into the upkeep of said metal devices.

Once again, heard this week........
“I can’t get a hold of my rep, and I need to place an order”

We hear this countless times.
Why can’t they get a hold of their rep?
Because they want to place a small order.
Small orders get ignored by the big boys.
The big boys need volume to get off their ass.

That’s where we step in.
Immediate call back or email return.
Small RFQ? We are on it. No problem.
We’ll scoop up those requests all day long.

We had a request this week by a molder of ours who wanted to get his scrap ground and turned back into pellets. He had a proposal from us in hours.
He couldn’t believe it.

My response... “Welcome to NCP” 😎

Did you know we carry equivalents to almost every grade of nylon Dupont makes?
Below is our data sheet for Nylon 66 Zytel ST801 equivalent.
This product is offered in Natural and Black.
Properties are always tested and certified. Cert provided with shipment.
LTL or TL quantities.

The last molder we quoted on this product saved over $1.00/lb. on their resin cost compared to their current Dupont supplier.
They dropped the material into the machine, no change in settings and it ran like butter.

I appreciate the many referrals. It's been amazing.
