This year the Relay For Life of Appanoose County IA honorary survivor is David McGill. Reminder, Relay for life is going on until 10PM!
"Each year we choose one courageous survivor to really honor. The honorary survivor is someone who shows courage and strength, perseverance and determination to fight and win their fight. They are pillar's in our community and they do not let cancer get them down and stop their volunteer work or help in the community. This years honorary survivor is described as someone like that, When asked, a family friend to describe David in a few words. This friend describes him as 'A Godly Man' a 'Family Man' 'and one of the kindest men' she knows. She continued with 'He loves his family and helping in the community. He is always thinking of everyone else and is a great mentor and role model to the young and old. When his granddaughter told him we wanted to honor him today his response was 'Why me? I'm no more special than the next person.'
Relay for life Chair Kristi Ritter said "I don't know anyone that knows him that would agree with his statement. He is special, he continues to help out in the community daily even when he is struggling with health problems."
The 2024 Honorary Survivor is David McGill and his family.
