We like adding features to a backyard that actually give people a reason to use the space. A bocce court is a good example because it turns an unused section of the property into something functional without needing a huge structure or complicated maintenance. Artificial turf, gravel, low concrete edging, and desert landscaping keep the design clean and practical, while string lighting makes it usable after sunset.

Everybody wants to know what a backyard like this actually costs, so here’s a rough breakdown. A custom pool and spa can be around $60,000, a cantilever pergola around $12,000, turf and travertine around $20,000, a fire pit around $2,000, and a smaller sport court can add roughly another $7,000 to $8,000.

Once you start stacking features together, it’s easy to see how a complete Arizona backyard can cross $100,000. That’s also why we think homeowners should understand the numbers before they start designing. We think a backyard with views like this should be designed around the view, not compete with it. The dark furniture and fire features create contrast against the lighter pavers and desert tones, while the linear water feature adds movement without making the space feel busy. Artificial turf and carefully placed landscaping also give us a way to soften all the hardscape without taking on the maintenance of a traditional lawn.
