1000 Layer Damascus
Check out this 1000 layer Damascus large utility carry with Palemoon Ebony scales (thank you Frederick Lumber Company for your amazing selection!) and mosaic pins. It has a 6" blade and an overall length of 10". The steel is 1095 and 15N20, forged to just over 1000 layers, 1026 to be exact. This hand forged blade has been heat treated with a Japanese style hamon. We are getting ready for the Mountain Heritage Arts & Crafts Festivals on September 25th, 26th, and 27th at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Jefferson County, WV. We will be there demonstrating so stop by, see this beauty, and see us swinging the hammer!
This knife has a story to go with it....
Why 1000 layers? Well, this billet was created a little over 3 years ago. I was involved in an accident and severely damaged my left arm, detaching muscles and destroying tendons. I had to have reconstructive surgery done to repair my arm. Looking at your hand and it not doing what you tell it to do is very frustrating and through physical therapy and forge therapy, I decided with extremely limited mobility, to make a 1000 layer billet. While being made, this billet was probably dropped 1000 times, too, as I retrained my arm. Regardless if you are injured or not, set lofty goals, challenge yourself, put yourself into a position that you have to adapt, to grow and to learn. Life might and you might give yourself set backs, but these are only temporary.
