There’s just something about race day.

The pressure.
The adjustments.
The teamwork.
The constant problem-solving when things don’t go exactly how you planned.

Honestly, it reminds us a lot of construction.

That’s why we love sponsoring the team at Lester Motorsports and following the crew every weekend.

This past Saturday at Hickory Motor Speedway, the team brought out two cars for the first time. The day started focused on getting Michael Sexton comfortable in the 17 car before shifting attention toward qualifying and race setup.

After a few adjustments and some fine tuning, both drivers were feeling confident heading into the night.

BillyJack qualified 10th with a 15.484 lap and Michael qualified 12th in his first-ever start with a strong 15.608.

Then came race time.

Michael got thrown right into the middle of intense side-by-side racing early on, spun on lap 9, gathered it back up, and kept digging the rest of the night to finish 8th in his first race.

BillyJack wasn’t as fortunate after getting caught up in contact on a restart that ended the night early for the 97.

But that’s part of it.

Racing—and construction—both require the ability to adjust quickly, stay calm under pressure, and keep moving forward when conditions change.

That’s one of the reasons we love being part of this team.

Because the same mindset it takes to compete on the track is the same mindset we bring to your project across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia every day:
Preparation. Communication. Ex*****on. Adjustment when needed.

Proud of the Lester Motor Sports team and looking forward to seeing them back out there May 30th.

If you’re planning your project and trying to lower costs, here’s what you need to know:

The highest ROI doesn’t come from cutting corners.

It comes from making smarter construction decisions before the work starts.

A lot of business owners think saving money means:

* Choosing cheaper materials
* Reducing labor costs
* Scaling back scope

But in construction, those decisions usually cost you more later through:

* Increased maintenance
* Reduced lifespan of materials
* Operational inefficiencies
* Rework and downtime

The real way you protect your budget is through planning, sequencing, and operational strategy.

Here’s what that looks like for your project in real life:

Instead of tearing out and relocating every utility line, sometimes your layout can be redesigned around existing infrastructure—saving thousands in plumbing, electrical, and concrete work without sacrificing functionality.

Instead of selecting the cheapest finish package, we help you evaluate where durable, long-term materials make more financial sense for your operations over the next 5–10 years.

Instead of overbuilding areas that don’t generate value for your business, we focus your investment on the spaces that directly impact:

* Customer experience
* Team efficiency
* Workflow and operational flow
* Revenue-producing areas

We also look closely at sequencing.

Because one of the fastest ways your project loses money is when trades are stacked inefficiently or crews are waiting on incomplete work.

For example:
If framing isn’t verified before MEP trades begin, you risk rework.
If materials arrive out of sequence, labor slows down.
If inspections fail, your entire schedule shifts—and every extra day costs money.

That’s why your project ROI is often decided before construction even begins.

That’s how Mike Johnson approaches your project from the start—looking at how to maximize value without sacrificing quality.

That’s how Randy Edmonds manages your project in the field—keeping trades aligned, reducing inefficiencies, and protecting your timeline.

And that’s how Ryan Abbott helps guide your planning upfront—so your investment is focused where it creates the strongest long-term return for your business.

Across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, this is how we help business owners build smarter—not cheaper.

Because your project shouldn’t just save money upfront.

It should perform better for your business long after construction is complete.

If you’re planning your project—whether you’re building new or renovating—here’s what most people don’t realize until it costs them time and money:

Subcontractors don’t fail because they’re unskilled.
They fail because they weren’t set up correctly.

And when that happens, your project pays for it.

Here’s what you need to know for your project from a construction standpoint:

If your plumber shows up before walls are properly laid out and verified, you risk rough-ins being off—now you’re cutting, patching, and reworking.

If your electrician doesn’t have finalized equipment specs, you end up with panels that don’t support your load—now you’re reconfiguring after installation.

If framing isn’t aligned with mechanical and plumbing plans, trades start working over each other—slowing progress and increasing errors.

If materials aren’t on site when scheduled, crews either sit idle or jump ahead out of sequence—both cost you time.

If inspections aren’t prepped for, you fail—not because the work is bad, but because it wasn’t presented correctly.

This is where projects start to unravel.

Because construction isn’t just about doing the work—
it’s about sequencing it correctly, coordinating trades in real time, and making sure every crew walks in ready to execute.

That’s how Mike Johnson approaches your project—making sure the plan actually works in the field, not just on paper.

That’s how Randy Edmonds runs your job—aligning trades, verifying work before the next phase starts, and catching issues early.

And that’s how Ryan Abbott helps you upfront—so your project is scoped, planned, and coordinated before construction begins.

Across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, this is what keeps your project from stalling:

Clear sequencing.
Trade coordination.
Field verification before moving forward.

Because your project doesn’t fall apart all at once—
it falls apart in small moments that weren’t planned for.

If you’re planning your project, make sure your team is thinking through these details before the first crew shows up.

Strong foundations protect strong investments.

Before you approve your next renovation or ground-up build, make sure you ask the questions most teams overlook:

• Does the design actually support operational flow — or just aesthetics?

• Has your GC planned for permitting timelines specific to your municipality?

• Are long-lead materials and utility coordination being addressed early?

• Is your subcontractor team aligned before construction starts?

• And most importantly — does your project support how your business needs to perform 5 years from now?

Because this is where projects either create momentum… or become expensive operational headaches.

We’ve seen restaurants lose efficiency because kitchen layouts weren’t engineered around throughput. We’ve seen dental expansions create workflow bottlenecks because operatories and sterilization flow weren’t strategically planned. We’ve seen retail spaces struggle because customer movement and staffing realities were never considered during design.

Those problems don’t start in the field.
They start in preconstruction.

That’s why Mike Johnson built ASCENT around one principle: think like the owner before decisions are made. Randy Edmonds drives disciplined operational planning and sequencing, while Ryan Abbott works early to align scope, expectations, and long-term business goals before commitments are finalized.

Across NC, SC, and GA, we help businesses build environments designed to perform operationally — not just visually.

Because strong foundations don’t just support buildings.

They protect capital, operations, and long-term growth.

Let’s talk foundations.

Not just the concrete you pour — but the people you build with.

Because here’s the truth most people don’t say:

If the foundation is off… everything that follows pays for it.

In construction, that’s literal.
Poor soil prep. Rushed pours. Missed details.
You don’t always see the problem right away — but you will.

And the same goes for your team.

The GC you choose, the subcontractors they bring in, the way the project is planned from day one — that’s your foundation.

It determines:
• How your money is spent
• How your timeline holds
• How problems are handled
• And ultimately, how your building performs

At ASCENT Construction Group, we take foundations seriously — both in the ground and in the way we build teams.

Led by Mike Johnson, with Randy Edmonds driving operations and Ryan Abbott aligning projects from the start, we focus on setting things right before anything else begins.

Because strong projects don’t get lucky.
They’re built on the right foundation.

Across NC, SC, and GA, we’re helping businesses build it right — from the ground up.

Follow along this week as we break it down.

If your renovation isn’t planned around how your business actually operates…
your project is going to create problems before it creates results.

Here’s what you need to know for your renovation:

The construction side of your project directly impacts the flow of your operations.

That means your layout, framing, plumbing, electrical, access points, and traffic flow all have to work together—not just look good on a final walkthrough.

We’ve seen existing spaces where:

* Walls were placed in ways that slowed employee movement
* Electrical layouts didn’t support equipment demands
* Plumbing locations created operational inefficiencies
* Customer traffic and employee workflow constantly crossed paths
* Storage and utility access were overlooked during renovations

That’s why construction planning matters long before demo starts.

At ASCENT, your project is approached with operations in mind from day one.

That’s how Mike Johnson looks at your project—making sure your renovation supports how your business actually functions long-term.

That’s how Randy Edmonds coordinates your project in the field—aligning trades, sequencing work correctly, and solving issues before they turn into delays.

And that’s how Ryan Abbott helps guide your planning upfront—so your project is set up for success before construction begins.

Because your renovation shouldn’t just create a newer space.
It should create a smarter, more efficient one.

Across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, we help businesses renovate with long-term operational flow in mind—so your project performs well long after construction is complete.

That’s how Mike Johnson leads your project from the top—focused on protecting your vision, your operations, and your long-term investment.

That’s how Randy Edmonds keeps your project moving in the field—coordinating trades, solving problems early, and making sure your timeline stays on track.

We’re kind of busy.

Not in the “we’ll get back to you next week” kind of way—
busy executing on projects across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.

Because your project doesn’t wait.
And it shouldn’t slow down just because construction starts.

Right now, that looks like:

A retail space in North Carolina staying open while work happens after hours.
A medical office in South Carolina getting prepped so inspections pass the first time.
A renovation in Georgia moving forward with tight coordination so the schedule holds.

Different locations. Different challenges.
Same focus on your project.

That means for you:

Work happens around your business—not the other way around.
Trades are aligned so your timeline doesn’t slip.
Problems are handled before they turn into delays.

Because your project isn’t just a job site.
It’s your operations, your revenue, and your next step forward.

So yeah—we’re busy.

Busy making sure your project keeps moving no matter where it is.

If you’re planning your next project and need a team that can execute across multiple markets without missing details—let’s talk.
