🏠 Can You Put Furniture in Front of Your HVAC Return?

Let’s be honest, sometimes the return vent is placed in the WORST possible spot in the room.

But here’s why it matters: your return vent’s job is to pull air back into your HVAC system to keep it circulating and cooled or heated properly. Blocking it makes your system work twice as hard, driving up energy bills and putting extra wear on your blower motor.

So, can you put furniture near it?

Ideally, you want to leave at least 6 to 12 inches of breathing room around the grille.

But is leaving it wide open always realistic? For most homeowners, no. If you need to put a console or table in front of a return vent, opt for an open-backed shelf or pieces with open legs so air can easily flow underneath and around it. Avoid pushing solid couches, beds, or cabinets flat against the wall.

Your furniture can stay, just give your return the clearance it needs to keep your air moving!

πŸ’‘ Noticing extra noise coming from your vents, or feeling hot and cold spots around the house? Restricted airflow might be the culprit. Give our team a call or send us a message to get your airflow checked!

** Testimonial ** "We recently had a new HVAC system installed but Andersen Heating & Cooling. Our two Service Technicians, Steven and Joel were two of the nicest young men to deal with. They were here for several hours, did not take a break, and explained everything they were doing. Could not have been more pleased." - Christine C.

What actually makes an HVAC company the best for your Charlotte home?

The best HVAC company is the one that fits your specific home and situation, not simply the most advertised name in the market. Fit comes down to five things: proper NC licensing, correct system sizing for our climate, transparent written pricing, honest repair-versus-replace advice, and a warranty you can actually collect on. A company can be large and well known and still fail two or three of those tests.

This matters in Charlotte specifically because the market is crowded and heavily advertised. Homeowners on r/Charlotte and in local Facebook groups say the same thing over and over: they want someone honest, licensed, and fairly priced, and they’re tired of feeling upsold. One common complaint is that the most-advertised brands can quote close to double what a smaller local company charges for the same work. Price alone doesn’t tell you who is best, but it tells you why you should always compare more than one quote.

Treat β€œbest” as a decision you make with a checklist, not a label you accept from a company’s own marketing.

Why is your electric bill so high this summer? πŸ€”πŸ˜±

Many factors can impact your energy costs, including your home’s size, insulation, daily habits, and even the weather. But when temperatures rise, your HVAC system often works harder than ever to keep your home comfortable. A few simple changes can help your system run more efficiently and may help reduce energy use.

Here are 5 common reasons your energy bill may be climbing:

❄️ 1. Your thermostat is set too low
The harder your AC has to work to reach a lower temperature, the more energy it uses. Most experts recommend setting your thermostat around 78Β°F when you’re home and adjusting it when you’re away.

πŸ”„ 2. Your AC is running nonstop
It’s normal for your system to run more often during extreme heat, but an AC that never seems to shut off could be a sign of airflow issues, an aging system, or a problem that needs attention.

🧼 3. Your air filter is dirty
A clogged filter makes your HVAC system work harder to move air through your home. Check your filter regularly and replace it as needed, especially during heavy summer use.

🏠 4. Your home is losing cool air
Poor insulation, air leaks around doors and windows, or ductwork issues can make your AC work overtime trying to maintain your desired temperature.

βš™οΈ 5. Your HVAC system needs maintenance
A well-maintained system runs more efficiently. Regular tune-ups help keep components clean, identify potential issues, and help your AC perform its best when you need it most.

Small changes can make a big difference when it comes to summer comfort and energy use. β˜€οΈ If your AC is working harder than it should, our team is here to help keep your home cool and efficient.

You asked for a sign and here it is! ✨🌀️✨

When temperatures climb into the 90s and beyond, your air conditioner is working its hardest. A quick summer tune-up helps make sure your HVAC system is prepared for the extended heat before small issues turn into expensive repairs.

A professional tune-up can help:
β€’ Improve cooling performance
β€’ Lower energy bills
β€’ Catch worn or failing parts early
β€’ Reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns
β€’ Extend the life of your HVAC system

The last place anyone wants to be during a summer heatwave is in a hot house waiting days for an emergency repair. During periods of extreme heat, our team often experiences a surge in service calls, which can mean longer wait times while your home continues to heat up.

Don't wait until your AC quits in this heat! πŸ₯΅ A little preventative maintenance now can help keep your family comfortable when you need your AC the most.

Schedule your summer tune-up with us today and enjoy the rest of the season with confidence!
