Excited to share my latest Expert Contributor article in Mooresville Lakeside Living (pages 20–21)!
This quarter, I dive into a concept I call “The House Doctor”, and why building a home should be approached more like preventative healthcare than symptom management.
Too often, homeowners (and even builders) chase comfort issues with quick fixes:
• Bigger HVAC systems
• Portable dehumidifiers
• Air purifiers in every room
But as I explain in the article, those are usually treating symptoms—not solving the root problem.
A high-performing home is a system. And when you get these four “home vitals” right from the start, everything changes:
- Humidity control
- Air sealing
- Insulation (thermal envelope)
- Ventilation (clean, controlled air)
When these work together, you don’t just get a house, you get a home that’s:
• More comfortable
• Healthier to live in
• More durable over time
• Significantly more energy efficient
One of the biggest takeaways:
Most homes don’t need more equipment, they need better fundamentals.
If you're thinking about building (or advising clients who are), the design phase is where everything is won or lost.
If you’ve ever dealt with a room that’s always too hot, humidity that won’t go away, or air that just doesn’t feel right, this will hit home.
I’d love to hear, what’s one comfort issue you’ve experienced in your home?
