So, let’s say you’re building a colonnade and some of your columns have their capitals facing the wrong direction. (Let's not dwell on how this might happen) What do you do?
Well, here we see that the decision was made to knock the deviating capitals off with a maul. This, however, presents a new problem, namely how do you install new capitals, ones that have the correct orientation. Who would you task with this project? The plaster guy? ( that, of course, would be me.)
Well, here we see that the decision was made to enlist the plaster guy.
And here is what the plaster guy did: cast the new capitals in place using custom made forms, grind off the imperfections, parge with an Italian cementitious stucco, and brush with a pigmented mortar mix.
Considering the project was a bit outside my usual scope of work, I think it came out pretty good.

Restaurant Features Plaster Finish: Currently, I’m working on this interesting project in the commercial development called Apex. It’s located in Southpark, across the street from the mall. The space will be used for an Asian restaurant, and according to the designer the look is supposed to be “industrial.” Unfortunately, marmorino was not in the budget this time but I’ve discovered that I can do some amazing things with a basic gypsum plaster and a technique called water troweling. The scale, in terms of square footage, is challenging; I’m pulling some 10 and 12 hour days in order to complete the project and I have to admit that my body is starting to feel like it’s been in a train wreck! Regardless, I think it will be amazing when it’s complete. Plan on going for pad thai in 2022!

So when a bathroom renovation in this Dilworth home damaged an adjacent plaster wall the contractor contacted me to restore it. I didn't do the original work so I sent a sample of the plaster to my Italian distributors for identification. They found that the formula was a type called grassello fino and they did a precise color match. I finished the restoration and the homeowner was delighted. The only problem is that the portion that i fixed is better than the original installation in the rest of the home! LOL!

New Construction: I'm putting the finishing touches on a fireplace in this gorgeous, new home, which is within walking distance to Freedom Park! I'm using imported, Italian veneziano and mixing two different tones on the surface as if it were aquarelle . The results are truly unique. Polishing it with a cera wax, also from Italy.
