Dante's 10th Level of Hell(man's)
Dante's book The Divine Comedy: The Inferno describes the author's fictional descent into ever worsening levels of Hell. In the book, Level 9 is reserved for the worst sinners. Well, thanks to the Japanese convenience store Lawsons, we've had to add an additional layer of Hell. What sin could Lawson's have committed to be so horrible that we've had to add an additional layer to Dante's epic journey, you ask? THEY'VE RELEASED A DRINKABLE MAYONAISE! That's right. A MAYONAISE DRINK THAT COMES IN A CUP. (See below). THAT YOU DRINK. REALLY. YOU CANNOT MAKE THIS STUFF UP. What better way to slake your thirst than DRINKING A CUP OF MAYONAISE! Early result suggest that Nomu Mayo would be better suited as means to induce vomiting in the event of accidental poisoning. Move over Ipecac Syrup, there's a new sheriff in town.

YOU SCREAM. I SCREAM. WE ALL SCREAM "WHY IS THE MCFLURRY MACHINE ALWAYS BROKEN!?"
In the list of certainties in life (Death & Taxes), one would be hard to argue a broken McDonald's ice cream machine should not be on the list. But no more. We hope. The U.S. Copyright Office issued a new set of exemptions last week that allows restaurants to repair equipment used in "retail-level commercial food preparation," which includes those soft-serve ice cream machines used to make McFlurrys.
Now, you may wonder why, of the 2,000+ US Government agencies, does the US Copyright Office holds the key to the McFlurry's liberation. Because Section 1201 of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act makes it illegal for third parties to bypass digital locks on any copyrighted materiel, including software used in commercial devices like those McDonald's ice cream machines, even for repairs. What that has meant for McFlurry fans is that every time a McDonald's ice cream machine breaks or has any kind of technical problem, it can only be repaired by the manufacturer and copyright holder. Which since 1956 has been Taylor Company, an Illinois-based manufacturer of ice cream machines. The only company (until now) with the sole "right to repair" them.

Personally, I think an event of this solemnity should have included a Presidential proclaimation, paid days off, fireworks, free McFlurrys, songs etc. Oh well. I'm gonna run out an grab a McFlurry. Let's hope the bathroom is not out of order.

I'M SORRY DAVE. YOU DON'T WANT BURGERS. YOU WANT CHINESE. DON'T ARGUE WITH ME OR I WILL BE FORCED TO ELIMINATE YOU.
Google Maps is getting a big update that’s supposed to help you find new places to visit with AI. You’ll be able to explore more locations with Immersive View and search for specific spots based on a descriptive query like “things to do with friends at night.” Google will then use its Gemini AI model to come up with “inspirational collections” matching that description. For late-night options, Google Maps might pull up locations categorized as “speakeasies” or places with “live music.” Meanwhile, regular search results remain below these collections.

I expect future upgrades & enhancements will include "Mom Mode" which will criticize your dining choices and guilt you into calling more often as well as "Life Line Mode" which will calculate how meals eaten at a particular restaurant will negatively impact your health and shorten your life span accordingly. Lastly, "Time Saver Mode" where Google Maps will actually eat the meal for you, charge the bill to your credit/debit card and write a review, thereby saving you the time and inconvenience of actually dining out.

Can't wait.

WHY CAN'T WE ALL GET A B**G?

Pizza inadvertently laced with THC – the principal psychoactive ingredient in ma*****na – has apparently sickened dozens of people in Wisconsin.

Health officials in Dane county say Famous Yeti’s Pizza in Stoughton, about 20 miles (32km) south-east of Madison, served pizza contaminated with THC, from Monday through Thursday.

Paramedics alerted health officials on Thursday that they had transported five people who said they had gotten sick after eating pizza at the restaurant.

Health officials said they have received dozens of reports of people who got sick from the pizza and are still taking reports. A full tally will be available in a final report, they said.

The officials said a restaurant cook ran out of oil, went into a shared commercial kitchen in the same building and mistakenly took a jug of oil off a shelf that contained Delta-9, a form of THC.

BRING OUT YER DEAD!
No turn of a phrase seems to best describe the current state of affairs in the world of chain restaurants than the iconic "Bring out yer dead!" scene from the movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". Restaurant units are dropping like flies: TGI Fridays, Cracker Barrel, Applebee's, Denny's, Boston Market, Red Lobster, MOD Pizza, (once the darling of the Fast Casual universe), Outback Steakhouse, and Hardee's to name a few. So are these closing a harbinger of further death and calamity that will spread to others in the industry? Or simply a market correction and, as our peasant friend protests "I'm not dead yet!" Like loyal Cubs fans used to say "wait till next year".

WARNING WILL ROBINSON! YOUR BEVERAGE IS READY!
Richtech Robotics plant to open 20 automated restaurants inside Walmart stores. The service robotics company will expand its restaurant operations and acquire exclusive rights to operate an additional 20 Walmart-located restaurants in Arizona, Colorado and Texas. Each of these locations is expected to generate between $700,000 and $2 million in annual revenue. The robot is projected to serve between 100 and 200 cups of coffee and tea each day and requires no smoking or bathroom breaks. (last part I added).

Are Convenient Stores the next logical target for robotic beverage dispensing? They are already at the touch screen level.

IT'S THE SMOOTHIE THAT WILL KEEP YOU DRY AND FEELING FRESH ALL DAY

In what can only be described as the fever dream of some desperate marketing intern, the folks at Erewhon Market (https://erewhon.com/shop), the California based upscale grocery store chain (not the camping supply store formerly of the same name) committed to "providing organic, ethically-sourced foods that support our bodies and our planet" has partnered with Salt & Stone body care brand to create a deodorant inspired smoothie. Yes. You read that correctly. A deodorant inspired smoothie. The $10 limited time offering is described as featuring a coconut-creme soft serve-base with an olive oil drizzle and flaky sea salt. The pairing is designed to offer a taste of “Salt & Stone’s feeling of luxury while giving your body the antioxidants and nutrients it needs,”. What's next? A Drano smoothie collab? How about a Pennzoil smoothie partnership? Or perhaps your tastes run more towards something like joint venture between Jamba Juice & The Nuclear Regulatory Commission? Me? I stick with strawberry-banana with a shot of bee pollen. And I won't apply it to my underarms.
