We recently completed a project that helps improve children’s opportunities for a better future!

First Five Years Fund is a federal organization “focused on making sure more families have affordable access to quality child care and early learning programs for their children.” Each state has a local branch and First Five Years California and their marketing agency, Rescue reached out to The Virtual Wild to help engage kids and parents with a traveling experience.

One area of focus is how “Toxic Stress” can build in children ages 1-5 years old and this mobile marketing experience needed a fun, simple way to get this message across to families, that was quick to engage with and made the education a fun moment. In collaboration with Rescue, the team designed and built a “wack-a-mole” style touchscreen game, encouraging kids to smash toxic stress and get a high score! What kid doesn’t love tapping a screen as fast as possible?

Even though it was a relatively simple project for us, Strategy is still where our team always starts, and developing a sound digital strategy that empowered our client was still a top priority.

Given that the experience would travel all over the state, sometimes to internet-less areas, the team designed the game to work offline, as both a large touchscreen format and a tablet version. Built with a single source code, and then deployed to both hardware formats, this strategy allows the client to use the tablets in times when portability or smaller footprints are needed giving them valuable flexibility. Then a simple analytics system captures user engagement data even when offline.
