The purpose of the Streets for Cycling Plan 2020 is to identify a network of bicycling facilities throughout Chicago that will ensure all Chicagoans, from children riding to school to senior citizens riding to the grocery store, feel safe and comfortable riding their bike on the city's streets. Lin International, Inc, consults full-time to the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) and is ser
ving as CDOT's Project Manager for the Streets for Cycling Plan 2020. Mike, a five-year resident of Chicago, uses his bike as his primary mode of transportation and commutes to work year-round from his apartment in Old Town. Mark de la Vergne, Sam Schwartz Engineering, is the Project Manager for the consultant team and will be leading the planning efforts for the South Side, Far Southeast Side, and Mid-Southwest Side areas of the city. Mark lives in Edgewater and has completed bike planning and design projects in neighborhoods across Chicago. John Wirtz is a professional transportation engineer with Jacobs Engineering, and is interested in promoting Complete Streets and multi-modal transportation options. He is assisting with bicycle network planning for the Streets for Cycling Project, particularly in areas 3 (Far South Side), 4 (Southwest Side), and 5 (Central Area). John lives in Evanston with his wife and two-year old son. Laura Wilkison, Vice President, Metro Strategies Inc. is leading the public involvement and outreach for the plan. She is truly multi-modal having worked on outreach for CDOT’s Pedestrian Plan, CTA’s Red, Orange and Yellow Line Extensions Alternatives Analysis and the CREATE passenger & freight rail program. Laura lives in the Edgebrook neighborhood with her husband and two boys (all of whom love biking to Indian Road Park and the North Branch Trail). Lee Crandell is Director of Campaigns at the Active Transportation Alliance, which is assisting with public outreach and organizing Community Advisory Groups. To get around town, he walks, takes transit and bikes, and his job is to make those ways of getting around better. Lee lives, walks and bikes in Lakeview with his partner. Craig Williams, who directs the Chicago office of Alta Planning + Design, is leading the creation of the Facilities Guide, as well as coordinating the North Sector of the plan. Craig has been heavily involved in bicycle planning efforts in Chicago and the region for the past 20 years, and is excited about Alta's role in helping craft the Streets for Cycling Plan. He lives in the Gold Coast with his wife Cecilia, and regularly takes advantage of their proximity to the Lakefront Path as well as the convenience of biking in the City.
