Attention Arizona residents!
On January 31st 2025 the governor of Arizona, Katie Hobbs, presented a bill to the Legislature call Rural groundwater management act of 2025. She is actively working on getting all Arizona groundwater under state management. She announced that this is the cornerstone for her administration. She is endeavoring to get all the water resources in Arizona under state management.
Utah did this several years ago and the original proposal was that by getting the rural groundwater under state management it would prevent the water from being used by out of state interests groups. Unfortunately it created other issues. The state of Utah passed new laws and statutes in 2022 that make it against state laws to use even rainwater for personal use without obtaining permits and water rights from the state.
The issue with states regulating water resources is that they continue to regulate more and more with each passing year making it harder for the individual to use the resources. For anyone in the state of Arizona who lives in these rural areas that want to get a well in place for personal use must act quickly so that it will be grandfathered in before these regulations are implemented.
