Big news for Ennis Steel Revival!

This week, we met with leadership from Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) to officially begin talks about building a workforce training pipeline right here in Craig — one that could prepare hundreds of local residents for future jobs in steel manufacturing.

CNCC was receptive, thoughtful, and supportive of what ESR is trying to do. They’re open to curriculum alignment, potential Letters of Support, and even inviting us to speak with their governing board.

This may not make headlines — but it’s a big deal.

It means we’re not just dreaming about building jobs in Craig… we’re building real partnerships to make it happen.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who’s helped us get this far — and we’re just getting started.

ESR will pause operations briefly from June 4–11.

We’ll keep you posted as more milestones unfold. Craig deserves a future we can build — and ESR is proud to be part of that mission.

Ennis Steel Revival Project Update – May 2025

We’re proud to share that the Ennis Steel Revival (ESR) project is gaining traction across the region and the state. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be meeting with regional colleges, economic agencies, and development partners to finalize alignment on workforce, funding, and long-term planning.

Here’s what’s happening:

A major stakeholder meeting with Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) is scheduled for May 27th to launch workforce and training collaboration.

We’re actively coordinating with the Northwest Colorado Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and state-level partners at the Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) following a promising strategy session.

We’re preparing for a regional alignment conversation with the Associated Governments of Northwest Colorado (AGNC) to explore additional funding opportunities and reinforce ESR's value to the broader region.

Site development discussions are progressing — our goal remains to anchor ESR at or near the Craig Station and ensure local reuse wherever possible.

This project isn’t just about steel — it’s about securing Craig’s future. A clean, resilient, job-creating future built on local pride and Colorado innovation.

“An Open Path – ESR’s Commitment to Craig”

We’ve made every effort to reach out in good faith to Tri-State Generation regarding the reuse of the Craig Station site for Ennis Steel Revival.

Our goal has always been to work with Tri-State—to convert Craig’s existing infrastructure into something that would protect local jobs, spark new investment, and give our community a clean, American-made industrial future.

Unfortunately, we’ve received no response to multiple formal requests, and we’ve now heard from more than one source that the site may already be earmarked for internal corporate use.

That’s disappointing—but it doesn’t stop us.

We’re proud to announce that ESR is moving forward either way.
We’re actively exploring alternate sites within Moffat County that still let us meet our mission:

Local job retention for workers impacted by coal closures

Modern manufacturing with clean-tech steel

Reuse of industrial land to benefit Craig—not leave it behind

We’re working closely with Colorado Northwestern Community College, local leaders, and state officials to make sure that no matter what decisions are made behind closed doors, Craig has a seat at the table in its own future.

To those who’ve supported this project from the start—thank you.
To those still watching from the sidelines—we invite you to reach out.
And to those standing in the way: we’re not stopping.

This is Craig’s moment to choose revival over retreat. And we’re building it.

ESR update - April 9th

With all the news this week about new federal actions to support America’s coal industry, a lot of people are asking smart questions about Craig’s future.

At Ennis Steel Revival (ESR), we want to be clear about who we are, what we do, and where we’re heading together.

First and foremost:
ESR is not a power company.
We are 100% a manufacturing company — focused on creating green American steel using smarter, cleaner technology that leads the world in innovation.

So what makes our steel “green”?

It’s how we make it — not how we power the plant.

Instead of mining and burning raw iron ore like traditional mills, ESR will use Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF) to recycle scrap steel.

This process reduces carbon emissions by up to 70%, saves natural resources, and strengthens America’s supply chains.

Whether electricity comes from coal, gas, wind, or solar, our steel manufacturing process itself is what makes ESR part of the future of American industry.

We honor Craig’s proud history of fueling America’s growth — and now, we’re building on that legacy with new industry, new jobs, and new opportunities.

It’s also important to recognize:
While the President’s recent executive orders unlock new opportunities for coal, they also send a powerful message: America must rebuild its manufacturing strength.
At ESR, we believe in that vision.
We are proud to be part of the movement to keep American industry locally grown, grassroots strong, and ready to rejuvenate both our local and national economies.

Project Update:

We have completed our first legal consultations regarding site acquisition and project structuring.

Meetings with city officials, economic developers, and small business advisors are ongoing and positive.

Our first formal discussions with Tri-State Generation and Transmission are scheduled and approaching soon.

We are preparing to reach out to other EAF facilities across the country to learn directly from industry leaders and build strong guidance into our project.

Ennis Steel Revival is committed to:

Creating 150–300 direct, permanent, good-paying jobs in Craig.

Generating up to 2,000 additional indirect jobs through construction, supply chains, transportation, and support industries.

Reusing Craig Station’s valuable infrastructure for a bold new purpose.

Using 100% recycled American steel scrap — not newly mined ore.

Keeping manufacturing local, sustainable, and future-ready.

We are proud to say: we’re not in the power business — we’re in the business of making things.

We are here to add strength to Craig, not to replace its history.
Thank you for standing with us as we move Craig forward — with pride, with purpose, and with true American craftsmanship.

Our Region Is Moving Forward — and So Are We.

Clean energy projects like this pumped hydro proposal show why Craig’s future is bright.

Ennis Steel Revival (ESR) proudly supports a future where clean energy powers clean industry — building real jobs, protecting our community’s legacy, and keeping Craig strong for generations.

We’re already running models on how projects like this can help power Colorado-made green steel right here in Craig.

Energy Conversations Are Changing — And So Is Craig’s Future.

Colorado’s recognition of nuclear energy as "clean" highlights an important truth:
Our region must choose carefully between clean energy production and long-term waste storage.

Ennis Steel Revival (ESR) stands firmly for building a clean, job-creating future — without importing high-risk radioactive waste into Craig.

We fully support a clean energy transition, and ESR is already preparing to power green steel production with clean sources like hydro and renewables.

Clean energy should power jobs — not bury risk.

CRAIG’S FUTURE: Why Clean Industry Still Makes the Most Sense

As headlines buzz about nuclear energy, we want to share why Ennis Steel Revival (ESR) remains the smart, timely, and job-rich path forward for Craig, Colorado.

Our region is at a turning point. With Craig Station retiring, the need to replace jobs, protect our local economy, and keep Craig’s working families in town has never been more urgent.

Here’s what we’ve found:

1. Clean Steel = Real Jobs Sooner
ESR’s proposed green steel facility would recycle scrap metal using Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology—creating hundreds of good-paying jobs in welding, plant operations, maintenance, and transportation.
Unlike nuclear, which takes 7–10+ years just to break ground, ESR could begin within 2–3 years, aligning with Craig Station’s closure in 2028.

2. We Use What We’ve Already Built
We’re not starting from scratch. The Craig Station site already has rail, power lines, water rights, and zoning—everything we need to get to work. ESR reuses this infrastructure and keeps the industrial identity of Craig alive—without waiting on a government promise.

3. Cleaner, Safer, Proven
Nuclear energy has its place in the long-term future, but it brings risks, delays, and radioactive waste. ESR’s EAF steel technology is clean, modern, and already powering cities like Pueblo. We’re talking 75% lower emissions than traditional steelmaking and zero toxic waste.

4. A Stronger Foundation for Craig’s Future
ESR builds more than steel—it builds resilience. It attracts downstream industries, sparks local supply chains, and diversifies our economy. If nuclear ever becomes viable down the road, Craig will already have a stable economic base to grow from—thanks to the ESR facility.

Let’s keep moving forward, together.
Craig doesn’t need to wait for far-off solutions. We can power America again—not with nuclear waste, but with Colorado-made green steel.

If you haven’t yet—sign the petition and let our local and state leaders know that Craig chooses a cleaner, faster, job-filled future:
