This is been the summer of refrigerant leaks!

For my customers, I wanted to share this video so that you can see an actual coil leak. I would consider this a medium size leak and it's possible
that its effects may not be noticed for several more months, depending on the home and season of the year.

I hope all my customers and friends made it through the floods ok and are back to enjoying our wonderful muggy spring weather!

Please take note that if your yards flooded around your air conditioner condenser unit, that you should inspect or have it checked out for debris and or ants! The flood debris can clog your condenser coil and cause your system to overheat. The ants will make a home in your unit and cause other problems! Also it is a good time to check your filters and replace them if needed.

Many of you have what we call whole house media filters of the 4 or 5 inch wide variety. These usually need to be changed every 6 months even though they claim to last 1 year. Remember, most air conditioning systems were not designed to be whole house air cleaners so keep your a/c systems working well by changeing the filters monthly or bi-annually as needed!

Fire ants are going crazy right now! If you can, keep them away from your air-conditioning condenser unit with some natural pesticides.
Try this from wiki:
Sprinkle diatomaceous earth inside the house. Food-grade diatomaceous earth is a very effective insecticide that doesn't harm humans or pets in the least. It's composed of fossilized diatoms that have been ground to a powder. When insects walk over the powder, the tiny fossil shards scratch the waxy outer coating on their exoskeletons, causing their bodies to dry out. Sprinkle the powder along your baseboards, windowsills, and around the perimeter of your house to kill ants. •It's recommended that you wear a mask or cloth over your face when handling diatomaceous earth. While the powder isn't harmful when ingested, the tiny particles can be hard on your lungs when you breathe them in.
•Diatomaceous earth becomes ineffective when it gets wet, or even when the air is damp and humid. It will regain its effectiveness when dry, so if your home's humidity is reducing the potency of your DE consider using a dehumidifier in the problem areas. [3]

Poor quality and broken leaky ducts cause a lot of problems! Besides costing you a lot more money to run your a/c, air going into your attic causes the air conditioning blower to make up that air by pulling it back from the attic or the outdoors by way of all the cracks and crevices in your home. Pulling in air from the attic is bad. It is dirty, hot and full of dust and dander. Have us check your duct work when we do a spring check this year, it only takes minutes.
