I use AI to push out a lot of my though leadership content.

Treat AI as your junior engineer.

I coach teams to manage models like sharp interns. You decompose the task, assign roles, review artifacts, and test. This human-in-the-loop pattern lifts quality and sharpens metacognitive skills.

Most people throw prompts at AI hoping for magic.

That's like handing a complex project to an intern without context, clear requirements, or quality gates. You get inconsistent results... and waste time debugging output that missed the mark entirely.

Here's what works better.

Break complex tasks into specific, bounded subtasks. Define clear inputs, outputs, and success criteria. Review intermediate work before final delivery. Test edge cases and validate assumptions.

Just like managing any talented but inexperienced team member.

This approach does two things simultaneously. Lifts output quality significantly. And sharpens your own thinking as you learn to articulate requirements more precisely.

The goal isn't replacing human judgment... it's amplifying it through structured collaboration.

Some days, it feels like universities are stuck in the past when it comes to teaching engineering.

I remember leaving school feeling like I understood theories really well—but when I started my first job, I realized I had no idea how to actually build the things companies cared about.

Have you ever felt this way before? I know some of you have felt this way.

I see a lot of smart people in the same boat. We spend years learning formulas and concepts, but we all need more real-world, hands-on stuff.

I think things have to change. These days, companies want people who can jump in and start solving real problems right now.

What I've seen and heard - skills pay the bills. It's people who keep learning new skills, even after graduation, are the ones that get ahead. And there are more ways to do that lately—online courses, certificates, even partnerships between schools and businesses.

If you could go back, what do you wish you’d actually learned for the job you wanted? Or if you’re still in school, what do you wish they taught more of?

"I know how to design PCBs, but I keep failing interviews."

I hear this constantly. Here's why it happens:
Most engineers can follow design rules but can't explain WHY those rules exist.
When an interviewer asks about impedance control, sometimes they don't want to hear the basic "I use 50-ohm traces."

They want to hear about transmission line theory, reflections, and how you calculate trace geometries based on stackup properties.

Physics understanding is the difference between a staying stuck pushing buttons in your ECAD software...

while the job offer goes to an engineer.
