This customer had a gas valve that was failing last winter but I was able to keep it going. This year the exhaust motor got really noisy and eventually failed.
In 2019 another contractor put in a new A/C. Well they used the original cased coil cabinet and placed the taller new evaporator coil into the shorter Cased Coil cabinet, chewed up the sides of the cabinet as the new coil drained in different locations. Well we'll change the entire cased coil when it's time for the 2019 A/C to be replaced.
The original installation used a large return drop ductwork, then installed a 16" x 20" x 1" air filter box. Well the furnace manufacturer required that to be a 20" x 25" return air opening into the original furnace. We've updated the return drop ductwork, added the additional box underneath the furnace to allow for a proper return air opening for the new furnace as well as adding a larger air filter cabinet. We don't just replace equipment we improve the entire installation!

Britson's has helped out another customer in need of new equipment! Tail end of the summer months the first systems air conditioner compressor failed electrically. They decided to hold off for spring of 2026 to replace the A/C portion of the system. Well the furnace had other ideas. We also found another of their furnaces was not keeping up to the desired temperature. We found it has a heat exchanger failure that was causing safety switches to trip and need manually reset, but only run for a short time thereafter.
We installed two new furnaces, upgraded the ductwork on the return side to keep the new equipment running efficiently with proper airflow, replaced the entire intake/ exhaust on the first new furnace as it was installed with improper sloping for condensate drainage as well as improper PVC piping as it was intended for waste water drainage not for pressure, and will be replacing intake/ exhaust piping to the second furnace in the near future for the same reason.
We added the new evaporator coil to the first system in order to make the supply side of the ductwork complete and shorten the time it will take to install the new A/C portion of the system in the spring.

A 120-year-old home with a 30-year-old addition, previously converted to four apartments using a single furnace. It has been mandated by the city to separate its ductwork. Installing four furnaces or mini-split systems was not feasible due to the layout and limited breaker panel space. To resolve this, we installed 4 radiators in each apartment and connected them to a new boiler with a four-zone circulation pump controller, enabling independent or simultaneous operation of each zone.

This homeowner had been smelling gas. Found four leaks throughout the house. Removed all gas lines and applied new thread sealant to all connections. Turned the gas meter back on and marked my line on the half foot lbs scale and wouldn't you know it, I've still got a leak. After digging a little bit around the meter and inside the crawlspace I can see a 3/4" union totally covered in concrete! Also found a 1/2" copper tubing coming from the concrete area! Well now what? Homeowner has chosen to risk it and they'll chip away at the concrete and get back to me when I can access the piping.

Who puts new parts on this unit without looking over the entire packaged unit? I was asked to just replace the air filters. As I walked away from the unit, the furnace exhaust was running but it was cold. I found the roll-out switch was tripped. Take a look at those rusty seams on the heat exchanger tubes! A previous company had recently replaced the exhaust motor and circuit board. New heat exchanger or a new unit. Somethings got to go! Safety first people!

Engineering at its finest! 🤨 Let's run a harness of wiring to the burner, gas valve, and flame sensor. Oh wait we forgot the ignitor! Let's put a hole IN THE MIDDLE OF A PLATE OF METAL ABOVE THE BURNER AREA! All of this was too much for the last guy. The last guy couldn't be bothered to put it all back together again properly. 😒
You can hear the spark occurring at the burner and gas smell out of the exhaust pipe. I thought let's pull it all out to see what's the area of ignition look like? That's when I found that the gas valve had frost all over the bottom. Yep, it was time to go sit in the van and warm up! After the gas valve and I were thawed out I reassembled the entire burner area. Another great idea of the engineers was to add a 45 degree elbow on the exhaust pipe, get the exhaust further away from the intake hood. Let's add a 90 degree elbow down off of that 45 degree elbow. Now the exhaust can be at a perfect height to be blown right back into the intake hood. We should place the gas valve right next to the intake hood. I made an engineering decision and removed the second elbow! All is well again. Enjoy your heat everyone.
