The tail end of a derecho that started in South Dakota Minnesota made its way to Iowa the Dubuque land area around 4 to 5 AM, June 25, 2024 bringing 80 mile an hour winds and some instances of scattered hail about 1.75” reported. The morning quickly warmed up to a very hot and humid day in the 90s bringing optimal conditions for a late night storm that pushed across the whole state of Iowa creating funnel clouds and dropping ping pong sized hail in the early evening. Update: storms continue to race off to the east heading towards places like Cedar Rapids/Iowa City, Ottumwa, Davenport, and Burlington.

Stay weather aware for the next couple of hours. Storms should be out of the state by 9pm.

It’s that time of year again now that Mother Nature threw the first round of spring weather, I’m already finding hail and wind damage all over eastern Iowa. Customer had their roof ripped off from the funnel cloud that went through Coralville on 4/1, asked for a simple “tarp job”. Took it a step further and brought in my crew of pros to replace all the wood decking, 2 layers of ice and water protection on the eaves, synthetic underlayment, and wrapped on the two missing sections of siding on the peaks. Next step, I will be working with with both sides of the duplex condo owners’ insurance carriers to restore full siding, roof, gutters/downspouts, and replacement of broken windows. Please note, PSA:

Mother Nature is going to get ferocious today all across eastern Iowa with moderate to severe wind, rain, and large hail. If possible, put your cars in the garage or under cover if possible. If not too late, I would also make sure you are in good standing with your insurance company and double check your policy. I’ve helped hundreds of customers from the Derecho in 2020 and the biggest hit I seen most people take was when they discovered they had an ACV policy versus an RSV policy. You definitely want to make sure you have an RCV policy in cases like this.
