Shout out to Project Big Wood for their incredible event to release the 2026 “State of the Big Wood River”Wednesday night in Ketchum! RIVHAB’s Jeanne McFall was invited to speak about fish habitat, functioning ecosystems, and the importance of process-based river restoration as we continue working to restore resilience and ecological function throughout the watershed.
The Big Wood River shines because of the incredible community, conservation partners, and decades of habitat improvement work that have helped support a strong wild trout fishery. But like many western rivers, there is still important work ahead — reconnecting floodplains, improving habitat complexity, restoring natural processes, and addressing the biological limiting factors that affect long-term watershed health.
Thank you to Project Big Wood for bringing together scientists, landowners, agencies, conservation groups, and the community for an honest and productive conversation about the future of the river. Thanks for letting us represent alongside such thoughtful and educated panelists.
