You’ve followed because you love what underwater cameras reveal — the behavior, the biology, the sheer strangeness of what lives below the surface. TurtleCam. SharkCam. The footage that reminds us how little we actually know about the ocean we share.

There’s a nonprofit on Cape Cod called Our Blue Horizons that is teaching kids to do exactly this work. Their flagship program — Project SHARK: Students Harnessing Awareness, Research and Knowledge — puts students on the water, in the field, and behind the controls of ROVs they build themselves. Marine conservation fieldwork. Ocean skills in real conditions. The same curiosity that drives everything we do here, instilled deliberately in the next generation of marine scientists.

I’m proud to help amplify their work over the next several weeks. If you’ve ever been moved by what a camera under the water can reveal — imagine what it does to a 14-year-old who built the camera and drove it themselves.

Follow them. Donate if you can. Share this if it resonates.

“Street cred. You can’t buy it. You can’t credential it. You absolutely cannot prompt it.”
You get it by doing hard things in hard conditions and coming out the other side changed. That’s what we build. Capable kids, on the water, earning it the old way.
🦈 PROJECT SHARK Project SHARK students earn it on the water. Every time.

Nearly ten years ago, two women set out to change the world by using technology, passion for turtle conservation and community support to create Project TurtleCam. Nearly 200 people donated from $5 to $25,000 to support our project and its success.
Today, this conservation initiative has been reimagined under the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Our Blue Horizons and aims to expand conservation efforts with sea turtles and beyond. Please join me in celebrating the next mission: 'Shells & Shipwrecks'.
