ReyMontalvo the President and CEO of Consolidated Energy Design talks about his mission and the solutions which his company can provide.

I lived through that period of time in 1975 when the nation had to ration natural gas and gasoline. I witnessed firsthand significant price increases in both, and it brought home the fact that these fossil fuels weren’t going to last forever. We needed to conserve energy.

I have been working in the energy field for 50 years with the last 35 years at one company, Consolidated Energy Design (“CED”). I started off as General Manager and over time became the President & CEO. After gaining years of energy conservation expertise, I’m now focused on a higher subset called Smart Grid technology. I have been awarded three (3) patents thus far by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.

1. Smart Grid Technology: This Fully Automated Demand Response/Reduction system (FADRS™; pronounced faders) significantly reduces energy (income stream #1) and enables customers to participate in power grid programs such as Demand Response (income stream #2). This technology is fully automated, predictive, self-healing, and Human Centric and requires no actions on the part of the customer. It also reduces the client’s carbon footprint which in turn reduces the impacts of global warming.

2. Smart Micro-Grid Technology: This FADRS™ technology is typically intended for large buildings and campuses (colleges, universities, corporate, cities and towns). While sophisticated enough to give the client a Net Zero Energy Cost, it also requires no actions on the part of the client.

Both these energy technologies are supported by the world's largest power grid (The PJM Interconnection) and are considered "game changers" or "disruptive technologies" by industry professionals throughout the nation.

3. IoT “Micro-BAS” Edge Control Technology: This technology builds on the first two Smart Grid Technologies by miniaturizing a conventional large Building Automation System (“BAS”) to the point that disruptive high performance and carbon reduction can be achieved at 80% - 90% less cost than a conventional BAS.

I strongly believe that this will become the future of BAS by leveling the playing field so that Small to Medium Size Business (“SMB”), which represent 80% of the U.S.A. economy, can compete with any size company (no matter how large) and use the money saved from significant energy reduction and monetary incentives earned from the Power Grid to help them optimize their networks. Now SMBs can have extra money going to their bottom lines for improving their lifestyle, hiring more employees, expanding their businesses, helping reduce global warming, etc.

I drive the company vision with emphasis on holistic energy conservation utilizing time-tested best practices, R&D on the latest energy savings technologies, and system selection based on a customized engineering approach providing just the right combination of Measured and Verified Energy Savings, a high level of Indoor Air Quality (“IAQ”), and a very comfortable internal environment while remaining "invisible" to users.

We at CED put in the hard work to develop this disruptive hardware and software called FADRS™ so the client, can focus on their core business…not the energy business, and reap the financial rewards and the great feeling that comes with knowing they are doing their part to reduce carbon emissions and save the planet.

While my work is also my passion, most of my spare time is spent with family, spiritual activities, photography, and composing music.

NYC Local Law 97 – Sustainable Buildings NYC
How Can you be Ready?

NYC is serious about not wasting energy and polluting the air. That’s why they passed Local Law 97 which goes into effect in May 2025 (That’s just 1.5 years from now). Any building larger than 25,000 square feet is in their “crosshairs”.
For example, if you own a building that is 100,000 square feet and you don’t meet their new stringent energy savings and carbon reduction guidelines, NYC will fine you:
$50,000 per month for energy waste
$ 2,300 per month for excess carbon emissions
That’s almost $628,000 per year in fines in ADDITION to your already high energy bills of approximately $275,000 bringing your new total annual cost to $903,000 if you are not in compliance. This is not an option! The penalty for a false report is $500,000 and up to 30 days of imprisonment.
Consolidated Energy Design’s patented and time-tested technology can save you 30%-40% in energy costs (about $100,000) and avoid all fines reducing your annual costs to just $175,000 instead of potential costs of $903,000. We utilize a state-approved funding program which results in no upfront cost to you.
Call us today to set up an appointment so we can show you how we can help.
