It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our family's patriarch Allen Zappone.

Allen Alphonse Zappone, 85, passed away on April 11th in Mays Landing, NJ.
Son of Josephine Zappone (Nizzari), and Frank Zappone, he was born November 28, 1938, in New York, NY. Raised in the Bronx's "Little Italy" with many lessons from the school of hard knocks, Allen graduated from Salesian High School in 1956. Allen attended Dayton University in Ohio for two years, but he preferred learning in the field to the classroom and entered the construction business shortly after. He began in the business working as a surveyor and learning the mechanics of vertical construction in New York, NY. He worked his entire life in the commercial construction industry, moving his young family from New York to West Berlin and eventually to Linwood in the 1960s. He met the Fabi family shortly thereafter and began sharing his knowledge to help form one of the most successful and dominating construction companies in South Jersey and the surrounding area. He brought highrise concrete construction to South Jersey and eventually took over FABI, Inc. (Now PRO Construction) in the 1980s. Allen changed the coast skyline and redefined Atlantic City with highrise casinos and towers. Along the way, he helped shape and define the way construction companies and unions continue to work today. Allen never retired. He kept working and sharing his knowledge to the very end. During his "later" years he traveled to Italy and spent his winters in West Palm, FL with his partner Kathleen Mitchell. He did it his way.
He was preceded to heaven by his mother and father, ex-wife Patricia the mother of his children, aunts, and uncles. He is survived by his partner Kathleen Mitchell, his children: Derrick Zappone (Katy) of St. Augustine, FL, Matthew Zappone (Melanie) of Margate, NJ, Mark Zappone of Linwood, NJ; Six grandchildren: Kayla Hires (Eric), Alec Zappone, Charity Walton (Zack), Bodhi Zappone, Marina Zappone, and Mitchell Zappone; One great grandchild: Emmit Hires; brother Francis Zappone, Jr of Southhampton, NY; sister June Minadeo of Ossining, NY as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephew, and Godchildren.
Allen was a deeply beloved father, uncle, cousin, brother, and friend.
While we lost our most beloved father, many have lost a friend and loved one in him. He loved his friends and family. Allen was always willing to listen and help anyone in need. His kindness and generosity will forever be remembered by many families in and around our area. There was so much more to him than just dad, though to us that was his greatest role - he was also a friend, a coworker, a colleague, a cousin, a brother, and more.
We invite you all to share pictures or memories.
