Today we were out in La Jolla servicing a Daikin multi-zone mini split system that wasn’t cooling properly.

When we opened the indoor units we found the filters completely clogged and early signs of mold buildup inside the system.

Airflow was heavily restricted and the homeowner had started noticing the system wasn’t cooling like it used to.

After performing a full deep cleaning, we flushed out years of dust and debris from inside the unit. The dirty water coming out during cleaning showed just how much buildup had accumulated inside the system.

Once the cleaning was completed, airflow was restored and the system was running properly again.

Mini split systems are great for comfort and efficiency, but they do require periodic maintenance and cleaning, especially in coastal areas like La Jolla where salt air and dust accelerate buildup.

If your mini split hasn’t been cleaned in a while, it may be time to have it serviced.

Mini Split Not Cooling Like It Used To? This Could Be Why…

We recently went back to a home in Spring Valley where we installed a 5-zone Mitsubishi mini split system in 2021. The homeowner mentioned that some of the indoor units were not cooling as well as they used to.

After opening the units, we discovered the blower wheels were heavily impacted with dirt and buildup.

When this happens, the unit cannot push enough air across the coil, which reduces cooling performance and makes the system work much harder.

The good news is the system didn’t need repairs — it simply needed a professional deep cleaning of the indoor units.

Once the blower wheels were cleaned, airflow was restored and the system began cooling properly again.

This is one of the most common maintenance issues with ductless mini split systems that many homeowners don’t realize.
