TICKNOLOGY is founded by scientists that specialize in tick biology and tick-borne disease. We offer tick testing services and expertise to people at risk for chronic Lyme disease. Getting your tick tested for Lyme and other pathogens is a logical first step after a tick bite. Our tick removal and sample submission kits make tick recovery and testing simple and timely. *Our diagnostic tests are hi

ghly sensitive and specific. *Our tests detect the presence of several tick-borne pathogens. *Co-infections of more than one pathogen can be detected in a single test. *Tests are fast (3-5 day turn around).

Tick season is ramping up even here in our mountain areas. Ticknology has started receiving Rocky Mountain wood ticks this week. The 4 ticks shown below tested negative — good news. Rocky Mountain wood ticks are associated with Rocky Mountain spotted fever, tularemia and Colorado tick fever (virus). Although infections are uncommon in this species, preventing the bite is key! Permethrin kills and repels ticks & mosquitoes. If you haven't heard about the use of permethrin on clothes and gear, check out the link below.

TickAlert! People often think that tick activity halts throughout the winter months - a reasonable, but incorrect assumption. In February of 2026, Ticknology received a variety of ticks from at least 15 different US States. Blacklegged ticks from California, North Carolina, Illinois, Michigan were positive for Anaplasma, Lyme, and Relapsing fever. This report illustrates how important tick bite prevention and education are year-round. Find more information about tick testing at www.ticknology.org

October WI Ticks | Lyme Awareness | We are approaching heightened activity for adult deer ticks (blacklegged ticks). Below is a map of October positive deer ticks (Lyme, Anaplasma, Babesia, Relapsing fever) and images of recent tick submissions. Prevent tick bites and, if bitten, remove ticks promptly. Always save your tick in a dry zip loc bag- store in the freezer (or in ethanol). We recommend sending a photo of your tick to TickEnounter for FREE tick identification and other helpful information. https://web.uri.edu/tickencounter/tickspotters/

The ticks are out! Please bring me your ticks. I would like anything collected within the state of Colorado. I just need your name, city where collected, and what animal it came off of (if one). You can put them in a baggy and bring them into Grand Animal Hospital in Fraser, CO or mail them to me at PO Box 14, Fraser, CO 80442. This is for a tick study to find out what ticks are present in the state and which diseases they carry. Thank you!

“Every type of tick has a slightly different season. In this case – adult blacklegged ticks – their season is October and November. That’s when they first come out. They’re at their freshest and their hungriest.”- Tom Mather at TickEncounter virus
