Tick season is ramping up even here in our mountain areas. Ticknology has started receiving Rocky Mountain wood ticks this week. The 4 ticks shown below tested negative — good news. Rocky Mountain wood ticks are associated with Rocky Mountain spotted fever, tularemia and Colorado tick fever (virus). Although infections are uncommon in this species, preventing the bite is key! Permethrin kills and repels ticks & mosquitoes. If you haven't heard about the use of permethrin on clothes and gear, check out the link below.

TickAlert! People often think that tick activity halts throughout the winter months - a reasonable, but incorrect assumption. In February of 2026, Ticknology received a variety of ticks from at least 15 different US States. Blacklegged ticks from California, North Carolina, Illinois, Michigan were positive for Anaplasma, Lyme, and Relapsing fever.
