Growing up with vision loss requires more than learning how to see differently. For Griffin, and many like him, it means learning how to speak up for yourself, and make sure your needs are met.

For World Blindness Awareness Month, Griffin shares how bullying, lack of recognition by his teachers, and feeling misunderstood eventually pushed him toward something powerful: self-advocacy.

Understanding his vision helped him better communicate what he needed, and eventually how to find peace with his journey.

After being diagnosed with Stargardt disease at 19, Gavin has experienced firsthand how low vision can reshape everyday life, from the hobbies he enjoys to maintaining his independence.

Now, he’s experiencing Innovega’s Gen I Smart Glasses for the first time. Every demo gives us the opportunity to learn directly from people like Gavin and continue working toward technology that helps individuals make more of the vision they have.
