In addition, it allows us greater interaction with our clients which results in the details of your new home conforming to your own exacting standards. Due to the inherently energy efficient building methods used with ICF homes we can easily integrate renewable energy resources into the design of your home. When combined with solar photovoltaic (PV) cells and solar thermal collectors we can build a Net Zero Energy Home (NZEH). During the construction of your new home, you will be dealing directly with the owner of ICF Homes of Virginia. There will be no middle men to filter your concerns or questions. We will make ourselves available to you at all times during this important step in your life. Satisfaction with your new home is as important to us as it is to you. Episode 5: Water & Moisture Management – Protecting Your Home for a Lifetime

Water and moisture are among the biggest threats to the long-term durability of any home. That's why one of the most important goals in home construction is simple:

Keep bulk water out, control water v***r, and manage moisture properly.

A well-designed home uses proper grading, flashing, weather-resistant barriers, air sealing, roofing details, and quality window installation to keep water where it belongs—outside.

Just as important is controlling water v***r. Warm, humid air naturally moves through gaps in a home's envelope. If that moisture reaches a cool surface inside the wall, it can condense into liquid water, increasing the risk of mold, wood decay, and costly repairs.

Traditional wood-framed homes rely on lumber as the primary structural material. While wood performs well when it stays dry, prolonged exposure to moisture can lead to swelling, warping, decay, and mold growth.
