There's no secret that Oak & Iron Builders was founded on family principles and a heritage of hard work, dedication, faith and foundation. So this week, while remodeling an old home on New Deal Potts Rd in Cottontown, where all of our family grew up, we found a gem that is a great reminder of why we do what we do.

Duane and Tim Biggs of Oak & Iron Builders are two of three brothers and sons of Larry Biggs, who just recently went on to be with Jesus. Larry's dad (Cloyd D. Biggs) and uncle (Odes A. Biggs) were also brothers who worked in the construction business and led their families just a few hundred feet apart from each other on New Deal Road. Both of them have also gone on to be with the Lord and left a lasting effect on what is a very large Biggs family spread throughout Sumner and Robertson County and beyond.

We found this signature on the side of a kitchen window frame and housing while tearing down the old house that they built for an in-law family member of Cloyd D. Biggs.

As we think about our dad and his legacy, and our grandfather and great uncle and their family and all they did as builders and farmers and men of faith and business in their community, this was a somber, yet solemn and faithful reminder of what has been instilled in us. They helped build many of the homes, businesses and churches which make up New Deal and its history.

Brothers doing what we know best. That was Biggs Brothers Builders Supply. And we have a modern day reminder of how special it was.

Father's Day is a reminder that some of life's greatest lessons are not learned in classrooms or boardrooms, but at kitchen tables, on front porches, in workshops, and through the quiet example of a father who chooses each day to love, provide, teach, and lead.

The influence of a good father reaches far beyond his own lifetime. It is carried forward in the values he instills, the character he shapes, the faith he shares, the work ethic he models, and the love he gives to his family.

Today, we honor the fathers, grandfathers, and father figures whose steady presence has helped build strong families, strong communities, and strong foundations for future generations.

May we take time today to be grateful for those who have guided us, encouraged us, sacrificed for us, and helped make us who we are.
