In the past two plus weeks I’ve received calls and through daily conversations around town, people have asked me why I didn’t have the schools mowed for opening day of school and Meet the Teacher as I had the last 6 years.
As of August 1st, 2024 Mike’s Irrigation and Lawn Care’s contract with GISD ended. The contract had been awarded to a group from Palestine.
Apparently after speaking with the Superintendent Friday, he was unaware that my contract had ended August 1st and thought the new group had been told to begin September 1st. So that’s why the campuses were a mess for opening day of class and for Meet the Teacher. The new people will start this week and honestly I’m looking forward to seeing what they have in store for our schools.
But here’s what I want to share as a taxpayer. For the last 6 years my pay for the mowing of all GISD and its properties in town was $36k a year. An average of $3000.00 a month. And that’s the same number I turned in for my bid for this coming year..
The new group is going to be paid $96,000.00 a year or $8000.00 a month.
Just giving you a heads up and trying to be transparent.
