This started out as rough sawn 3 inch slabs of oak. Re-sawn ,plained, routed and sanded for nosing. Something I thought was neat was the shoe that was original. Had to created a few hundred feet to match. About an 1 1/4 tall with a 1/2 base slight chamfer on top portion. Thought it unique and looking for it to find a home in our trim selection.

Butcher block is “ In”. This is a Cherry which will get a Natural oil finish. Looks good with the white cabs.

Little project at the lake. Fun to do and great folks to do business with. Something I was thinking about today was that the character of individuals in a project matter very much to the outcome of that project. Generally this refers to the contractor. But I would insist that the owner/client is fundamental in the outcome as well. The positive and engaged people in an endeavor make the world of difference. Grateful for these folks.

This is true for all trades or scopes of work. Example: new cabs in a remodeled kitchen. Map out where your cabs are. Verify stud location for fastening cabs. Rare but if need be cut rock behind where cabs are and add blocking. Address any issues such as out of square, plumb/level, plumbing, electrical, etc. Overall installation is so much faster if your not switching gears. Just focus on installing cabs. Preparation allows for best possible outcome. This is also applicable in just living.

You’ve heard the saying before: Fail to prepare—prepare to fail. But whether it’s because prep work is viewed as an unnecessary expense or it just boils down to impatience, many home improvers fail to properly prepare their surfaces before applying paint. We sat down with TOH painting pro Nick...

Stuff happens. But then there's magic and tada. Just like stuff didn't happen. Just a little hint. Wall is 1/2 inch Sheetrock. Use slightly smaller piece like 3/8 inch for patch that way less build up for mud. So not having to feather out so much. Little something I picked up in my travels abroad. Disclaimer, I am not a sheet rocker. But sure looks like I am. Haha.

Was over at the church( and yes the ceiling did give a little) and saw this and forgot I'd made it. Nice little piece. That was an oil rub that the boss ( Mary Jo )wanted to use to give it a little aged look. It worked.

This nosing started out as rough sawn oak. Cut it little oversized then planed it down. Router then little hand sand and " tada" custom nosing. Stained in place after install. Kicker and shoe installed after nosing set up. Retro fit on older structures can be a challenge. But this one turned out good. Finished pics later.
