Ladders should be inspected before and after each use to identify any visible defects.
- Check for loose, cracked, bent or missing steps and rails on the front and back.
- Be sure the top of the ladder is in good condition.
- If the spreader Brace is loose, bent, corroded, or will not lock don’t use.
- Be sure the shoes of the ladder are not worn down, loose or missing.
- Look if the pail shelf is bent, loose, missing or broken.
- Make sure the labels are on the ladder and legible.
- Lastly, be sure the general condition of the ladder is good! Check for rust, corrosion, dirt, or other conditions.
Be safe when using ladders on the jobsite! Ladder safety is one of the most commonly cited OSHA violations.
