This morning we had our 9th annual meeting at Indian Valley Country Club. All employee owners had the opportunity to gather and enjoy a nice buffet breakfast and discuss the plans for the future! Thank you to all employees for your hard work and dedication throughout the years.

Tool cords and extension cords must be visually inspected before use on any shift for defects (such as loose parts or damage) and for evidence of possible internal damage (such as pinched or crushed outer jacket). Damaged and ungrounded power cords pose serious hazards to the user including electrical shock and risk of fire! If a defect or apparent damage is found, the defective or damaged item must be removed from service.

The Bean Bag Food Program is a local nonprofit that provides food for children when they are not in school receiving school lunches. IT Landes was happy to play a part in their recent 100 box challenge. Thanks to our generous employees, we were able to fill many boxes of food to donate to this program. We are happy to give back to the community in any way we can.

In 2016 ANSI and ISEA (International Safety Equipment Association) released an updated scale with 9 levels of cut protection. The levels indicate how many grams of cutting load a glove can withstand from a sharp blade before being penetrated.
So don’t forget, inspect your gloves and be sure you are using the right cut level gloves for the right task!

Over the last couple years we have seen some of the struggles in our industry related to manpower shortages, condensed onsite project schedules, etc. In light of this struggles, IT Landes is committed to making a heavier investment in our pre-fabrication operations. This investment has led to more opportunity to utilize this resource and significantly reduce our onsite labor usage where field conditions often reduce efficiency. Micah Swartley, Pre-fabrication Manager, and team were previously working out of re-purposed space at our shop that was approximately 1,200 square feet in size. Within this last year we have already outgrown this space and have made the decision to relocate this operation to a larger space at our satellite office in Harleysville. This new space will provide approximately 4,500 square feet of space that will allow Micah’s team to grow in project capacity and opportunity. See photos below of the move to the larger space which began on Friday, February 17th. Thank you to Micah Swartley, Jake Franklin, Mike Hoffman, and Rodney Anderson for all your hard work and commitment.

The main components of fall protection are described here using these ABC’s!

WHAT ARE THE ABC’S OF FALL PROTECTION?
Safety professionals often use the acronym ABC to define a comprehensive PFAS (Personal Fall Arrest Solution) . The acronym serves a dual purpose. It highlights that there are basic steps that must be followed to protect workers from falls and as mentioned above, it also refers to the three components of a PFAS:
• A stands for the anchorage connector, which is a piece of equipment that attaches directly to an anchor point on a structure.
• B represents the body wear item, which takes the form of a full body harness in the case of fall protection.
• C stands for the connecting device. This is a shock absorbing link from the anchorage connector to the full body harness, which is designed to arrest a fall before a worker hits the structure or ground below.
Each element is vitally important and a PFAS only works when all three are in place and working as designed. It is important to understand each element and how they work together to provide the best fall protection solution for your application.

Ladders should be inspected before and after each use to identify any visible defects.
- Check for loose, cracked, bent or missing steps and rails on the front and back.
- Be sure the top of the ladder is in good condition.
- If the spreader Brace is loose, bent, corroded, or will not lock don’t use.
- Be sure the shoes of the ladder are not worn down, loose or missing.
- Look if the pail shelf is bent, loose, missing or broken.
- Make sure the labels are on the ladder and legible.
- Lastly, be sure the general condition of the ladder is good! Check for rust, corrosion, dirt, or other conditions.

Be safe when using ladders on the jobsite! Ladder safety is one of the most commonly cited OSHA violations.

When using cutting wheels, they can be extremely dangerous. To help protect workers, manufacturers print the specification details on the various wheel types.

How can you tell if your fall protection has ever suffered an impact and needs to be taken out of service?
Harnesses have built in impact identifiers. If the stitching is ripped, remove the harness from service. See the images that show whether or not the harness is safe to use!
