hello my name is wayne a larson, and i would hope that you would see that our so called wind energy trend is nothing more than a get rich scam for wind develpers, by no means have they dropped C02 emissions, by no means have they stopped the need for any fossil fuel producing energy plant, the truthful facts are the tax incentives they are getting for prodution, and the more they build the more th

ey get. it's about the money with no concern about wildlife, families, homes or properties. we the people need to take a stand against what will scar our future for many years to come with a bad choice of renewable energy, if turbine plants would have been researched at a proper level before going forward with such misconcern so many thousands of acres of land could have been saved, i believe a better less destructive and more reliable source of renewable energy is needed and out there, hydrogen is one the top producing renewable energys we have that with proper planning can be the the greatest choice for our future needs

BIG WIND TAKES HIT AS FULTON TOWNSHIP SAYS NO TO TURBINES

After a nearly four-hour meeting Wednesday night, the Fulton Township Board of Trustees voted unanimously (4-0) to turn down a recommendation from the township’s planning commission to move forward with the Heartland Wind Project.

Approximately 100 people filled the township hall, and another 20 people zoomed in, and all but a couple within the public comment spoke out against the project.

Denise Rossman, township supervisor, recused herself from the special meeting, noting a conflict of interest. That left the decision to Melissa Zemla, treasurer, Chad Marecek, clerk, and trustees Robert Baxter and Michael Oberlitner.

Invenergy, a Chicago-based company, had proposed putting 12 wind turbines in Fulton Township as part of the project seeking approval for 84 sites to eventually place 72 turbines throughout Fulton, Washington, Newark, New Haven, North Shade, and North Star townships.

All townships except Washington have held public meetings. The New Haven Township Planning Commission approved 27 turbines in mid-February. In mid-March, the Gratiot County Planning Commission approved 29 wind turbines in Newark and North Star townships. A week later, North Shade commissioners also unanimously approved their township for seven turbines.

With the Fulton setback, Invenergy will have to go back to the drawing board. This is a developing story, with updates to be provided in next week’s Gratiot County Herald.
