Last week, our company had the opportunity to assist a local business, Carries Restaurant, in renovating their walk-in cooler. We were initially recommended to the owner to replace the old faulty refrigeration system after another company had charged her a substantial amount of money, only to leave her with a non-functioning system. Upon commencing our evaluation of the cooler for the new system, it became apparent that the very old custom-built cooler box required restoration and the old FRP needed replacing. We understand that such repairs can be costly, and we are aware of the challenges small businesses face. Consequently, we devised a plan to donate our time for the walk-in cooler box renovation and commenced work. Upon removing the old FRP, we discovered that the walls required foam panels, prompting us to reach out to another local business, Hartford City Foam, to determine if they could provide assistance. After informing them of the situation and our tight timeframe, as Carries was renting a mobile cooler to maintain their product at the required temperature, they promptly began manufacturing custom foam panels. When we arrived to collect the panels the following morning, they informed us that they would be donating the foam panels as well, in order to assist another local business. This exemplifies the importance of community collaboration and support and we can’t thank them enough for their generosity. Carries now possesses a walk-in cooler that maintains temperature more effectively and operates more efficiently, resulting in cost savings for the business. With the box renovation complete, we relocated the new condenser to the exterior to eliminate the added heat load and stress on the restaurant's HVAC system, pairing it with an evaporator running the Intelligen control and monitoring system. We would like to Thank Carrie’s Restaurant for choosing us to get them back up and running.

Take a look at these pictures. What you’re looking at is a barely one-year-old HVAC system. On paper, it’s a great, modern setup. In reality? It was a ticking time bomb of inefficiency.

We had to completely disconnect this entire system and start from scratch. Why? Because the original installation completely skipped the fundamentals: a proper supply air trunk and return air trunk.
Instead of a engineered system designed to let the house breathe, it was choked out with improperly run flex ducting, sloppy line sets, and zero regard for static pressure. An HVAC system can be top-of-the-line, but if the ductwork and airflow aren't right, it’s just an expensive paperweight that will burn itself out in a few years.

🛠️ What we’re fixing:

• Re-engineering the airflow: Tearing out the bottlenecked connections to install proper, rigid supply and return air trunks so the system can actually move the volume of air it was designed to.

•Repositioning the outdoor condensing unit to sit properly on the pad

•Freon leaks and gas leaks

•Adjusting gas pressures that were never dialed in and caused over pressured burners

•Finishing wiring the outdoor condensing unit that they never finished .

• Doing it right the first time (even if it's technically the second): Ensuring this homeowner actually gets the efficiency and lifespan they paid for.

The Lesson: Cheap installers install equipment. Professional HVAC techs install systems. Always vet your contractors, because fixing a bad install costs way more than doing it right the first time.

A couple of photos of the job we completed today, in which we replaced the old heat pump and air handler with a new R-454b Ameristar 4 ton heat pump and an Ameristar air handler featuring 20kw strips, a variable-speed ECM blower motor, and an all-aluminum multi range coil. We also installed a Iwave, new Aprilaire filter box and Honeywell T10 pro + thermostat with an additional wireless indoor sensor to average the house temperature, equipment interface module (EIM) and Supply/Return duct sensors to monitor performance.
