Day 1: made it to Galax, Virginia.

Started in Charleston, WV and drove down through Wytheville, VA into Galax. Noticed a bridge on Route 21 that looked like it was in the process of being repaired so I pulled over to check it out. Left the first flier on site. Shortly after I got back in the car and continued driving, I found a tick crawling on my thigh. Disgusting things.

Staying at the Econolodge in Galax tonight.

Made a trip to Costco to get supplies but they were closed due to an apparent gas leak in the store. All the employees had been sitting outside for several hours because they were still on the clock. So I went to Sam's Club instead which was not as good as Costco.

Tomorrow is the first real day that I'll be going around and talking to people. Will be working around Galax / Grayson County / Independence / Sparta...and basically just asking the same question everywhere I go:

Who the hell needs a bridge around here??

I’m Owen, and I’m driving around Southern Appalachia until I sell one bridge.

I’ve got a big sign, a Cadillac with a blow-up bed in the back, and one mission: find a person who has a private bridge or creek crossing problem.

The bridge panels are built in LeRoy, WV.
