Since 1980, homes have been built tighter and less healthy to humans. Since 1980, every disease and illness have skyrocketed exponentially. (I cut and paste below).

There is evidence that fungi and mold may be linked to the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS):
• Fungi
Some evidence suggests that fungi may be a primary cause of ALS. Fungal infections can lead to ALS through mechanisms such as DNA damage, increased glutamate production in neurons, and neuronal apoptosis and inflammation. Fungal components have been found in corpora amylacea (CA) from AD and PD patients.

I take a lot of pride in being honest in my profession. I've solved many mold issues through only a phone. Though I am requested to provide a mold inspection, in most cases with suspecting homeowner's and renters, mold issues don't appear randomly. Was a damp towel left in a non-ventilated closet? Or sweaty tennis shoes after a workout?
All roads always lead to lack of ventilation in an area of a home. Many homes with a small 3rd floor have a door adjoining an attic. Heat rises. That is the most important room in the house to keep air flowing. Plus, it will always contain a higher mold spore count.
Builders are building homes too tight for energy efficiency. Yes, it keeps moisture from entering, however conversely it keeps moisture from exiting. Next time we have a cool front, open windows. Allow your home to breathe! Indoor air is 200x's more polluted than outdoor air.
