Paradigm Flow Services, PIC Chemicals and River Rental Tools unite to form strategic Pipeline Remediation Alliance

Houston Paradigm Flow Services, PIC Chemicals and River Rental Tools today announced the formation of a strategic alliance that will provide technologically advanced production enhancement solutions to shallow water Gulf of Mexico oil and gas customers.

The alliance amplifies the companies’ core service offerings to deliver sustainable solutions to the paraffin wax problem that has plagued the shallow water Gulf of Mexico’s pipeline infrastructure for decades.

Calcium Based Completion Fluids are Almost Always Damaging

Calcium brines contain strong divalent cations that will form calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate scale deposits while other monovalent cations such as sodium and potassium will not.

Alkaline calcium brines are produced by neutralizing acids with calcium hydroxide (lime). Lime is added to hydrochloric acid and hydrobromic acid to produce saturated calcium chloride and calcium bromide. To maximize the economic value (highest density), excess lime is usually trapped in these saturated brines because of the lack of available free water. When intermixed with unsaturated reservoir water, a pH increase results causing a variety of calcium salts to precipitate.
SOLUTION: Add a buffered organic acid with its associated salt to stabilize the pH below the level where calcium salts can form, but above the level that would cause corrosion. PIC Chemicals introduces CalSaf®, the calcium brine treatment designed to prevent formation damage when wells are completed with calcium brines. For pennies per barrel, CalSaf® can improve ultimate recovery and reduce many other costs that result from calcium brine usage.

As a Veteran from the Vietnam Era, I experienced many years of rude and abusive treatment from those who had no appreciation for my sacrifice. It’s only in the recent years that I have started being recognized many times with formal thanks for my service. What a difference. We seem to have the same negative public rebuke for those in the oil and gas industry, as I experienced after the Vietnam War. I believe it is just as unwarranted and unfair. It’s time we educate the public as well as ourselves to the value of our contributions. If you are questioning your value, then you should start by reading Alex Epstein’s book, “The Moral Case For Fossil Fuels.” The next time someone criticizes you for contributing to the oil industry, you will be armed with unbiased, logical reasoning why our critics should just say, “Thank You.”

As another year for The Offshore Technology Conference comes to an end, I would like to congratulate OTC on their 50th anniversary and for being the largest Oil and Gas Trade show in the world. I noticed an increasing participation from the companies outside of the United States which was nice to see. Qatar Petroleum was particularly impressive. However, there was no presence from the major suppliers that we are most familiar. Where was DOW, BASF, Nalco, Clariant, Huntsman, Stepan and many others. I have attended OTC over 30 times since 1980. It has become better organized, with greater global reach, but I question its value as compared to more targeted technical conferences.
