We've heard your questions about the construction beginning Tuesday (Jan. 28) on Mill Road near the Millstone Subdivision to install a bypass road for the upcoming ditch and bridge work in the area.

The purpose of the Mill Road stabilization project is to protect the roadway from the effects of erosion of the streambank by constructing a retaining wall along the north bank in three sections. To mitigate the impact to traffic, the City has authorized a change order to have a two-lane bypass road constructed along the north side of Mill Road where the existing walking path is located. This will allow the City to keep Mill Road open to through traffic for as long as possible.

During the first two phases, the bypass road will allow traffic to flow east and west through the project area. During phase 3, the eastern section near the bridge, a full closure of Mill Road, including the bypass road, will be necessary. During that time traffic will be required to use a detour route. In the interest of driver safety and to benefit the flow of traffic through the bypass road, the Mill Road entrance to Millstone Subdivision will be closed for the duration of the project. Balch Road will not be affected by this project, and Millstone residents may use this route to get to the elementary school or to get to the Mill Road bypass road, while it is open.
