DON’T LET A BROKEN AC HAUNT YOU THIS SEASON

The scariest thing in your home this Halloween should be the decorations, not a system that quits on you. The good news is that the frights are best kept to the costumes and the candy, and your comfort can stay the one thing you never have to worry about.

A little attention now keeps the surprises away later. If your system has been making odd noises, running longer than it should, or just not feeling right, it is worth having a look before a small issue turns into a bigger one.

However you are spending the night, whether it is handing out candy, walking the neighborhood, or just staying in, we hope it is a safe and happy one.

Happy Halloween from all of us at Jurnee Mechanical. We are here whenever you need us, no tricks, just comfort.

Sometimes a few words say it all. Great service, friendly, and professional is exactly the experience we want every customer to walk away with.

Behind those simple words is how we try to show up on every single call. Do the work right, treat people well, and make the whole thing easy from the first hello to the last handshake. When that adds up to a highly recommended, we know we did our job.

Thank you for taking the time, Eric. We appreciate the kind words and the recommendation.

Should I close the vents in rooms nobody uses to push more air elsewhere?

It seems like simple logic. Shut the vents in the guest room, and that air gets sent where you actually want it. In practice, it usually works against you, and here is why.

Your system was sized and balanced to move air through the entire duct network. When you start closing vents, that air does not politely reroute itself. It has nowhere to go, so pressure builds inside the ductwork. That extra pressure pushes more air out through any leaks and forces your blower to fight against the resistance.

The outcome is the opposite of what you hoped for. Higher bills instead of savings, more wear on the blower motor, and in some cases a coil that gets so starved of airflow it freezes right up.

There is a comfort cost too. A sealed off room does not stay neutral. It can grow stale, musty, and uncomfortable, and that air still drifts back into the rest of the house.

If certain rooms run too hot or too cold, closing vents is a bandage, not a cure. The real answer is usually balancing the system or adding zoning so each space gets the right amount of air on purpose.

Boots on the Ground, Gauges on the System

This is a real service call, boots in the dirt and all. Those gauges and that tank hooked to the unit are how we check and correct your refrigerant charge, which is one of the most important things for keeping an AC running right.

Refrigerant is what actually moves heat out of your home. Too little and the system runs nonstop without ever cooling, works itself harder, and wears out early. We do not eyeball it. We connect to the unit, read the real numbers, and dial the charge in to where it should be.

It is also a good moment to spot the bigger picture. The age of the unit, the condition of the wiring, and whether a recharge is a smart fix or a sign of something that needs a longer look.

Think your system is low or just not cooling like it used to? Let us put it to the test.

My old system leaks the older R410A refrigerant and every recharge costs more. Is it worth it?

If you are paying for the same recharge again and again on an older system, the math has quietly shifted against you. Here is what changed.

As of 2025, the industry moved off R410A to a newer refrigerant. Your system will keep running on R410A, but production has wound down, so the price climbs with every passing season. A recharge that used to feel routine now stings, and it is only heading one direction.

Now put that on top of a system that is already leaking. A recharge does not fix a leak. It just tops off refrigerant that is going to escape again, so you are paying more and more to refill a tank with a hole in it.

Here is how we think about it with you. If the unit is newer and the leak is small and repairable, a fix can make sense. But if it is an aging system leaking R410A and asking for repeated recharges, you are feeding rising costs into something near the end of its life. At that point, a new high efficiency system usually pays for itself in energy savings and ends the refrigerant drain for good.

We will run the honest numbers with you, no scare tactics. Call us at (737) 408-1703.

The Attic Setup That Keeps Your Ceiling Dry

Here is a look at an air handler up in the attic, and all that white PVC running off the side is the condensate drain. It is one of the most overlooked parts of a system, right up until it causes a problem.

As your system runs, it pulls moisture out of the air, and that water has to go somewhere. A properly installed drain line, with a clean trap and a secondary safety in place, carries it away quietly. When it clogs, which happens more than you would think, the water backs up and finds the next way out, often straight through the ceiling below.

This is exactly the kind of detail we check. Clear drain, solid connections, and a safety backup so a little water never turns into a drywall repair.

Want your drain line checked and cleared before it backs up on you? We are happy to take a look.

The power flickered during a storm and now my AC will not turn back on. Now what?

A power flicker can leave your system stuck, even when nothing is actually broken. Before you assume the worst, run through a few simple checks.

Start at your electrical panel. A surge or flicker often trips a breaker, so look for one tied to the HVAC system, flip it fully off and then back on, and give it a moment.

Next, check your thermostat. A power blip can reset or black out some thermostats, especially battery powered ones. Swap in fresh batteries and make sure it is set to cool and calling for air.

Many systems also have a built in delay. After a power interruption, the unit may wait a few minutes before restarting to protect the compressor. So give it five minutes before deciding it is truly dead.

If the breaker holds, the thermostat is awake, and it still will not run after that, the surge may have damaged a component like the capacitor or control board. That is where it needs a trained set of eyes.

Do not keep flipping the breaker over and over. Call us at (737) 408-1703 and we will find out what the storm left behind.

A 14 YEAR OLD SYSTEM, REPLACED AND RUNNING RIGHT

When an AC system is pushing 14 years, replacement is often the smart call, and the last thing you want is to wait around for it. Mark did not have to. We got him on the schedule within just a couple of days.

Our team came out, installed the new system, and did not pack up until everything was running perfectly. That final check matters to us. A new system is only as good as the install behind it, so we make sure it is dialed in before we leave the driveway.

And the warranty Mark mentioned? That is one of the things we are proudest of. Quality equipment backed by strong, long warranty coverage, so you can count on your comfort for years.

Thank you for the kind words and the recommendation, Mark. We appreciate it.

The Drain Line That Protects Your Ceiling

Here is a part of your system most homeowners never think about, until it causes a problem. This is the indoor coil up in the attic, and all that white PVC is the condensate drain that carries moisture safely out of your home.

As your system runs, it pulls humidity out of the air, and that water has to go somewhere. A properly installed drain line with a clean trap moves it away quietly. When it clogs, which happens more than you would think, the water backs up and finds the next way down, often straight through the ceiling below.

Notice the details here. The trap, the clean connections, and the secondary safety in place. That is what keeps a small amount of water from turning into a drywall repair.

Want your drain line checked and cleared before it backs up? We are happy to take a look.

I have spent hundreds on repairs this summer already. When do I stop fixing and replace?

If the repair bills kept stacking up this past summer, that fatigue you are feeling is a signal worth listening to. There is a point where pouring money into an aging system stops making sense.

Here is the honest math we walk through with you. A simple rule of thumb is to multiply the age of your system by the cost of the repair in front of you. If that number climbs past a few thousand dollars, or the repair runs more than about half the price of a new system, replacement is usually the smarter move.

Age matters too. Most systems last ten to fifteen years in our Central Texas heat. If yours is past twelve and needing attention every few months, the repairs will not stop, they will just get more frequent and more expensive.

Then there is the quiet cost. An old, worn system runs less efficiently every year, so you are paying more on your energy bills on top of the repairs. A new high efficiency system brings those bills back down and puts the constant fixing to rest.

We will run the real numbers with you, no scare tactics. Call us at (737) 408-1703 and we will tell you straight where your system stands.
