L&C Welding And Auto Repair | 2016 Lincoln MKX Water Pump Replacement
Being the mechanic in the family comes with its own responsibilities, and sometimes those responsibilities hit a little closer to home.
This time, the call for repairs came from two people who mean the world to me — my mom and dad.
Their beautiful 2016 Lincoln MKX has experienced a water pump failure, and after discussing the situation and the repairs needed, they made the decision to trust me with getting their vehicle back on the road.
For those who may not be familiar with this particular repair, the water pump on the 2016 Lincoln MKX equipped with the 3.7L V6 engine is not your typical water pump replacement. Unlike many vehicles where the water pump is externally mounted and relatively accessible, this engine utilizes an internally mounted, timing-chain-driven water pump.
Replacing it requires a considerable amount of disassembly, careful attention to the engine’s timing components, and precise reassembly to ensure everything operates as designed. This is not a repair where shortcuts should be taken. Proper procedures, attention to detail, and quality workmanship are absolutely essential.
Water pump failures on these engines can be particularly concerning because of the potential for coolant to enter the engine oil, which can lead to serious internal engine damage if not identified and addressed appropriately.
