Salt exposure can significantly impact hydraulic lines by causing corrosion, leading to leaks and potential system failure due to its corrosive nature, particularly when combined with moisture, which can accelerate the deterioration of the metal components, rubber coverings, wire braiding, especially at fittings and seals. Did you know that PIRTEK Kalamazoo is more than hydraulic hoses? Here is a pneumatic cylinder that was leaking. A bit of cleaning, a few seals, and good to go. Also, remember to apply proper lubrication when using pneumatic systems to extend the life of your cylinders. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Why pneumatic cylinders need lubrication:

-Dry out and fail: Without lubrication, the seals and valves in a pneumatic cylinder can dry out and fail. Most air systems have dryers to combat moisture from entering the system. This can also cause seals to dry out and fail.

-Stick-slip: Inadequate lubrication can cause an irregular cylinder stroke pattern (seen as stuttering or jerking), especially when changing direction. This is called stick-slip and can cause intermittent operation.

-Wear and corrosion: Lubrication reduces friction between moving parts, which helps prevent wear and corrosion. It will save your seals and help prevent wear patterns from forming on your cylider wall. These wear patterns can cause the cylider to be out of round and lead to replacement of the entire cylider if bad enough.
