Welcome to the page for Mammoth Solar, a solar photovoltaic (PV) project planned for Kanawha County, WV. Designed to produce as much as 90 megawatts (MW) of power, the project will provide up to an estimated $3.5 million in new county tax revenue for the first 20 years of operations and boost the regional grid with enough output to support approximately 13,000 average-size homes in the Mountain State.
American energy demand continues to increase and is projected to grow by 25% by 2030, and demand on the regional electricity transmission system (PJM) -- will grow at a similar rate. During that period, PJM’s peak load in summer months is projected to increase by nearly 30,000 MW, the equivalent of 30 new large nuclear units. As the region’s need for power grows, every bit of generating capacity is needed to ensure all users—households, businesses, healthcare providers, and others — can access reliable, affordable energy when and where they need it.
Solar energy works in tandem with other energy generation sources in ways that will contribute to a stronger electric grid for all users.
