Slight damper on progress yesterday... Sierra broke her leg jumping onto a rock in the creek near our house. She hyperextended it, then had to walk about a mile and a half back up the creek to get home as the sun went down. The boys helped her get back, but it was PAINFUL! We spent ALL NIGHT in the hospital getting x-rays, cat-scan, etc. They let her go about 6:30am with a stabilizing brace and we'll have to follow up in a week or so with an MRI to determine damage to ligaments, cartilage, etc. HOPING no ACL!!!! She's determined to go to the lake with us Saturday... no cliff jumping this time- she'll have to just sit on a paddle board!

UMMM... is it okay when the Gravel Guy tells you your driveway is like... A WATERBED!!!?!

NOPE. We just did a big ole dump at the end of the road instead of a spread. And then I tried to spread it onto the 'waterbed' with the excavator the best I could. It is indeed a bit of a sink hole. I'll be cutting a ditch along the front side soon, to divert rainwater and help firm it up a bit. New projects, new education- Land Sculpting 101!

Shed progress! Painting on the roof overhang and I planted a banana tree in the corner rock circle. It looks a little sad- got watered from the barrel where we rinsed our concrete tools and it really doesn't like alkalinity... and then it got a crazy amount of wind for a couple days. It'll survive- might have to trim off the leaves but the roots are healthy and it'll come back. Also made progress on the loft inside- these pictures are from Jack's perspective 😁

RAIN. So after 3 days of using my rental week, $1600 of excavator SAT and SAT... BUT, when we came back after it cleared up, the swales had COMPLETELY FILLED WITH WATER and they are working AMAZING! Lots of shoveling mulch now (...on truckload #4 or 5 already...) And the mulch is soaking up and incredible amount of water. We'll be planting SOON!

This hummer is STUCK!! And Isaac was sweating BULLETS! At the end of one of the swales, he ran into clay and water only 2 feet down and before he realized... the tracks were half sunk. We shoveled mulch into and around the tracks and tried to get some traction. Called Show-Me-Rents and they were super helpful (also told us it wasn't that bad - they've had people sunk almost to the TOP of the CAB!!?) We learned how to stick the bucket in the ground and push back while a chain was hooked to the truck and... VOILA (I mean... after HOURS of working at it!!!) FREE! Came in handy the next day too, when I hit the same white clay and water on the home site. This time I caught it more quickly and just Sierra and I were able to get it out with a chain and the truck.

Visited Oriah at music school for their "Neon 80's Theme" Showcase weekend and went to Chicago with a group of her friends! Beautiful city! We were on a trek to EAT PIZZA there, but we walked forever and finally settled for a cool sandwich shop across the street from the iconic Chicago Theater. Saw the river and Trump Tower, then ate donuts in Millennium Park. Fun group of kids!!

EXCAVATING! We got a skid steer and did an amazing amount of dirt moving in a week. Dug 2 huge swales (for retaining/ slow soaking water to hydrate berms for planting.) Created the entire "home site" with house pad, cellar/ storm shelter, in-ground greenhouse and garden area, etc.

This was Oriah last year jumping from the same cliffs in the last pictures. Love this cove! There are some super high ones across the water - maybe 35ft? Our friend Reed jumped off those last year- none of the rest of us have yet.

Taking a break at beautiful Lake Stockton! 5 min from our property- might as well stop by and catch the sunset!

Snapping pictures of sunsets in Missouri I feel like a racoon in a jewelry shop. Seriously never seen any skies that rival the ones I've experienced here. I'll post some more sky pics later- something amazing happens in the cloud formations here. I've actually heard that there is only one place in France that has the same types of weather convergence and creates something similar.
