On a process unit or a big building's chiller plant, the pipes usually sit under insulation and metal jacketing, which is where corrosion can go unseen. Our CTO, Hani Taan, put it this way in Hydrocarbon Engineering:

Cool Touch is a thin coating meant to bring hot pipes, valves and tanks to 140°F or below, per ASTM C1055, usually in one or two coats. We make it in Katy, Texas.

After the Palisades Fire, two crews put Wildfire Shield on one Pacific Coast Highway retaining wall. One worked in a shop, coating timber lagging on all four sides before it shipped, and the other worked on site, coating the lagging, steel and concrete already in place.

"Although the application process was straightforward, consistent installation techniques, proper surface preparation, environmental awareness, and coating thickness verification were essential to achieving a quality installation."

A hardening program is scoped by the mile. Crews take a corridor, the season closes, and whatever sits outside that stretch stays in service exactly as it is.

"The first step is identifying the infrastructure that is most exposed, particularly in regions with elevated wildfire risk. In those areas, wood and timber assets are often among the most vulnerable and should be prioritized."

Troy Marshall, Vice President, Thermal Management. The cross-arms, the bridge lagging and the timber walls holding a cut slope are the assets that tend to sit outside a replacement queue and stay in service anyway.

AEE World 2026 is done, and our team is heading home from Orlando with a very full follow-up list.

Three days of conversations with energy managers, facility directors, and engineers who came to the booth with real buildings and real problems. Hot roofs. Uninsulated equipment. Cooling bills that climb every August.

Every insulating coating has a temperature it can't go past. The honest ones tell you where it is.

Ours holds a touch-tolerable surface up to a 350°F substrate at an 80 mil build. Above that, on big steam headers, traditional mineral wool is the better tool and we'll say so. That one answer tells you more about a coating than any brochure will.

If you're pricing corrosion under insulation (CUI) work this fall, ask every vendor where their ceiling sits.

Quick one for anyone specifying a low-slope reroof in California.

A plan reviewer checks three things: the aged solar reflectance, the Solar Reflectance Index (SRI), and the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) Product ID. That last one ties both numbers to a rated product, and it stalls more projects than the other two. A figure printed in a data sheet isn't a rated value, and a reviewer has no mechanism for accepting one.

Put the Product ID in your specification section, not the submittal. It resolves during design instead of during review.

If you're putting solar on a commercial roof, there's a detail worth knowing: panels produce less power as they get hotter, and the roof surface around them is a big part of how hot they get.

Most of the time these are two separate projects with two separate budgets. Physically they're one system. A dark low-slope roof running hot in August is the environment the array has to work in.

Worth asking your contractor about sequence. If the roof needs restoration anyway, coating it before the racking goes on usually costs less than working around the array later.

Here's the part of a plant maintenance budget that surprises people: reaching the pipe costs more than inspecting it.

That's why corrosion under insulation (CUI) checks get pushed to the turnaround window instead of happening when risk says they should. Findings show up late, and by then wall loss has had time to add up. The hardest spots to reach, valves and flanges, are also where cut-and-fit covers leave seams.

Cool Touch bonds to the substrate instead of wrapping it, so there's no annular gap and the steel stays visible on a normal walk-down.
