There’s a right way to evacuate an HVAC system, and simply hooking up a vacuum pump and letting it run isn’t it.

A proper evacuation means removing the Schrader cores, using large-diameter vacuum hoses, minimizing restrictions, pulling from multiple points when possible, and measuring the vacuum at the system with a micron gauge, not at the pump.

Today we’re sitting at 354 microns and still pulling. 👊

And when it comes to the pump doing the heavy lifting, our JB Industries Platinum FORCE 8 has been an absolute workhorse. Reliable equipment matters when you’re trying to achieve a clean, deep vacuum and know the system is dry and ready for refrigerant.

👻 I AIN’T AFRAID OF NO GHOST… OR A SWEATING PLENUM! 💦😂

Sometimes even a properly insulated foam attic can create the perfect conditions for condensation problems.

This home has a variable-speed HVAC system, which means during our long, hot, humid Texas summers, the system can run for extended periods at lower capacities. That’s normally a good thing for comfort and humidity control, but those long run times also keep the supply plenum and ductwork cold for hours at a time.

If the surface temperature of that plenum drops below the dew point of the surrounding attic air, moisture starts condensing on it. In other words, the plenum starts sweating. 💧

And this one wasn’t just sweating a little.

The previous plenum had produced enough condensation that water accumulated in portions of the duct system and eventually contributed to the ceiling below falling in. Twice. 😳

Even with a dehumidifier operating in the attic, the conditions and long equipment run times were still enough to create a problem.

So after replacing the damaged plenum and the affected ductwork, we took things a step further. We encapsulated the new supply plenum with closed-cell spray foam, adding another continuous layer of insulation and an air/vapor-resistant barrier around that cold surface.

The goal is simple: keep the exterior surface temperature above the attic air’s dew point so condensation can’t form.

And because spraying foam in a tight attic isn’t exactly a shorts-and-T-shirt operation, we suited up properly with Tyvek, respirators, goggles and gloves. 👨‍🚀👨‍🚀

Somebody said we looked like the Ghostbusters.

They weren’t wrong. 😂

No ghosts were harmed. One sweating plenum was successfully busted. 👻🚫💦

The details you don’t see matter just as much as the equipment you do.

Take a look behind the scenes at the attic installation. This system was laid out from the beginning around proper airflow, zoning, serviceability and long-term performance.

Because the enclosed patio can be opened completely to the pool area, we didn’t just zone the supply air. We installed motorized dampers on both the supply AND return for the patio zone. When that zone isn’t calling, both stay closed, preventing the system from pulling hot, humid outdoor air through an open patio while the mother-in-law suite is being conditioned.

That’s not an off-the-shelf installation. That’s designing the system around how the homeowner actually uses the space. 🔧❄️

Another custom comfort project completed by Perfected Air Solutions! ❄️🏡

This beautiful addition was designed by DCP Pools & Patios as a mother-in-law suite with an enclosed patio/game room that can open completely to the pool area for entertaining. Great design for the home, but it created an interesting HVAC challenge.

We installed a Lennox EL19KPV variable-capacity heat pump system paired with Lennox Harmony III zoning controls, allowing the mother-in-law suite and enclosed patio to operate as separate comfort zones.

But we took the zoning one step further. 👇

Because the enclosed patio can be opened directly to the outdoors during pool parties, we installed motorized dampers on BOTH the supply and return for that zone.

When the patio zone isn’t calling, both dampers stay closed. That means if the patio doors are wide open while the mother-in-law suite is cooling, the HVAC system can’t pull hot, humid Houston air through the patio return and dump that moisture and heat into the system.

When the patio needs conditioning, the zone opens and the system responds accordingly.

That’s the difference between simply installing equipment and designing the HVAC system around how the space will actually be used.

Good morning, Houston! ☀️

Another day doing what we love, taking care of our neighbors and keeping families comfortable.

Owning an HVAC company means some days I’m meeting with customers, some days I’m running the business, and some days I’m crawling through an attic wondering why I chose a career where the workplace can be 130 degrees. 😂

But I wouldn’t trade it.

🏗️ Sometimes an HVAC changeout takes a little more than a set of gauges…

This condo presented a unique challenge: the air handler is located in a closet below, but the condenser lives on the roof.

So when it came time to replace the original 24-year-old R-22 system, there was only one practical way to get that condenser down and the new one up. 🏗️

We called in our trusted partner Kevin with Citi-Wide Lift Inc.

With the building surrounded by mature trees, Kevin had to literally “thread the needle” to get the old condenser off the roof and carefully place the new one. As always, his skill and precision made a difficult lift look easy. We’re grateful to have great partners we can count on when a job requires something outside the ordinary.

Once the equipment was in place, the Perfected Air Solutions team made quick work of the changeout, replacing the aging R-22 system with a new high-efficiency Goodman R-32 system.

And we didn’t stop at simply swapping equipment. The installation was brought up to current code requirements, and the rooftop condenser was properly secured and anchored.

From the crane operator in the trees to the final startup and commissioning, this one took planning, teamwork, and precision. 💪
