In a moment of reflection and gratitude, I am thrilled to share news that holds deep significance for me.
A collaborative academic case study is taking shape, crafted with the expertise of distinguished professors from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and others. This exploration delves into the evolving narrative of Tactical NAV.
Tactical NAV was conceived during my deployment in Afghanistan in 2010; it has been a labor of dedication from the very beginning. The upcoming study will chart our journey from the initial idea to the significant milestones I've reached, a journey I have navigated without direct support from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and the U.S. Army.
It's particularly humbling to look back on Tactical NAV's journey, from its debut on the Apple App Store in 2011 to its expansion onto Google Play, which has been punctuated by an array of challenges and triumphs.
The original case study, 'Tactical NAV: Innovation in the Army,' was published in 2012. It documented these early stages and has since become a teaching resource in universities nationwide, across both undergraduate and postgraduate disciplines.
Pending completion, acceptance, and publication by Harvard Business Review, the new case study will shed light on the intricate progression of Tactical NAV, dissecting the multifaceted aspects of the app's overall operation — coding, development, strategic planning, overall business operations, and beyond.
Having two business case studies published by Harvard University and Harvard Business Review is considered rare in the realm of academia, and is often indicative of significant interest or impact in their respective field.
It's a privilege to see Tactical NAV's story continue to resonate within the academic community, highlighting not only my personal narrative but also the collective dedication of my partner, his team, and the unwavering support from the app's users and stakeholders.
Attached is the first page of the original case study, offering a snapshot of Tactical NAV's origins. If you're intrigued to delve deeper, you can find the original case study online.
I thought this was a pretty cool thing to be a part of again, and wanted to share it because many of you were deployed with me at the time and helped me create the first version of the app for the iPhone.
Also, the vast majority of you have supported me from the very beginning — and still do — helping make Tactical NAV a success. I'm beyond grateful.
And when it comes down to it, the simple truth is that I continue developing and refining Tactical NAV to honor the men who were killed in action on that deployment.
I think about them every day, and those of you I served with.
Thanks, everyone.
