Paint cannot hide a poor drywall finish.

In fact, strong daylight and wall-wash lighting can make every seam, fastener, and surface change easier to see.

Here is what the drywall finish levels mean:

Level 3 → Texture finish
Used when the wall receives a medium or heavy texture. It is not meant for a smooth painted finish.

Level 4 → Standard painted finish
A common choice for flat or low-sheen paint in rooms without strong light running across the wall.

Level 5 → Full skim coat
A thin coat covers the full drywall surface. This creates a more even base for glossy paint and rooms with critical lighting.

CHC Remodel specifies Level 5 where imperfections are most likely to show:
