Just a few cases of neglected maintenances that caused untimely and costly breakdowns. Cracked heat exchangers (like the first picture), completely sorted up oil systems (second and third picture), burnt wires (fourth picture and a very dangerous fire hazard), clogged fuel filters (fifth picture), and burned out igniters(sixth picture), were all the direct result from neglecting regular maintenance schedules. Now not all maintenances result in finds like this and not all maintenances catch every single issue before they happen (like an igniter that decides to burn up), but a majority of the time alot of minor gremlins are caught before they become major untimely disasters like those pictured above.

This customer got a new expansion tank and pressure relief valve for their boiler. The old tank failed causing the pressure relief valve to perform its job and keep the boiler safe. Unfortunately since this relief valve was so corroded that after the new tank was put in it would not fully close, so we needed to put a new one in as well. This system is now back up and running and providing heat, thankfully our friends at hooked us up like always to ensure very minimal downtime for our customer!

Don't forget to schedule maintenance for your heating equipment!!! This customer called us with no heat Sunday, come to find out there has never been a maintenance done to the system since it was installed. This boilers heat exchanger and flue were so plugged up with soot that the unit kept pushing flue gas into the mechanical room. We had to spend a solid 3 hours just to get the heat exchanger cleaned to be able to run it. We also had to replace a few parts in the burner assembly as well as a zone valve that failed due to age. Lesson learned here to stay on top of those yearly maintenances. They may seam unnecessary but cases like this prove other wise.

This customer called with a no heat call, but unfortunately this unit was beyond saving. Luckily had a new furnace in stock ready to go. It may be a Friday night but we make sure that our customers are taken care of and have very minimal down time for their homes and businesses.

Don't forget to schedule those maintenances to avoid untimely breakdowns. This system was forgotten about for years and needed some help, as you can see by the pictures here the fuel filter was totally plugged up resulting in the unit not receiving adequate fuel to stay running. We also found some burnt wires that needed to be replaced as well. Now this customer is back up and running and their business is staying nice and warm!!

Did you know that just like a fire place or a wood stove your oil burner flue needs to be inspected annually and swept as needed? This very important process goes hand in hand with your yearly maintenance to vacuum out your oil burner. The flue/Chimney portion is completed by an experienced, licensed, and insured Chimney Sweep. That thick build up of soot can create all sorts of problems from causing the unit to not draft correctly and backing up combustion gasses into the conditioned space all the way to a fire hazard. If you haven't had you yearly Chimney/Flue sweep and inspection done yet make sure you schedule one to avoid untimely down time!

Avoid those nuisance service calls and change those air filters!! This customer reached out to us stating their heating system was struggling to maintain temperature in the house and that it had poor airflow. After investing a little deeper we found a very plugged up air filter that was the root of all the problems. After replacing the air filter the house got right up to temperature and had proper airflow coming from the vents.

Now that the bulk of the snow is behind us for this storm, please don't forget to shovel out your propane tanks, gas meters, oil tank fill/vent pipes, furnace and water heater exhausts, and dryer vents. Having cleared shoveled access to these outdoor terminations and components allows for easier access for emergencies and service, AND allows you to potentially avoid a nuisance service call due to your system not being able to breathe and vent.
