Most builders think timber frames are just a pretty accent piece.

They're right—but there's way more to it.

Those exposed beams aren't just transforming commercial spaces and breweries into warm, inviting places. They're also outlasting steel by centuries. They perform better in fires. And they're one of the few building materials that actually store carbon instead of generating massive emissions.

So if you've been thinking about adding timber frame accents to your next project—whether it's a brewery, restaurant, showroom, or high-clearspan warehouse—don't sleep on it.

We just published a breakdown of why timber frames are redefining modern construction—plus real examples of what they can do for your building.

Farmers, here's the mistake we see most often: building for what you have now — not what you'll need in 5 years.

Equipment keeps getting bigger. Fields keep expanding. And a building that fits today can feel tight before you know it.

In our latest post, we break down exactly how to size an agricultural storage building the right way — doors, clear spans, and all.

We also share the specs on a 100' x 180' facility we built for Pine Hurst Acres in Danville, PA. It's a good one.

There's nothing better than hearing it straight from the people who've been through the process. 🙌

Laura and Nigel of trusted Tristate Buildings to bring their brewery and restaurant vision to life — and we couldn't be more proud of how it turned out. Watch their story in the video below.

Most horse barn builders in our area will max out at 80 feet wide and 20-22 feet high. That's fine if you've got a couple horses and want to ride on your own.

But if you're running a boarding operation, teaching lessons, or hosting clinics? That size ceiling can quietly cap your income ceiling too.

Here's the reality: a 60x120 arena gives one rider room to work. A 100x200 arena lets you run two lesson groups simultaneously, set up full jump courses, and keep your program moving through the winter when the ground freezes and everything moves indoors.

Tristate builds up to 100 feet wide with 30-foot ceiling heights—clear span, no posts in the way. Our founder Kevin put it plainly: "Most contractors won't go above 80 feet wide or 22-foot ceiling heights. We can do more, because we have the engineering, the equipment, and the crew experience to back it up."

If you're thinking bigger might be better for your operation, we'd love to talk through the numbers with you.

From a Virginia hillside to a fully operational brewery and restaurant — this is the Loco Lion story. 🦁 One of the most complex builds in Tristate's history, and one we're incredibly proud of.

🦁 Two rescued African lions. 26 acres of rolling Virginia farmland. A British-American brewery with a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

This one was anything but ordinary.

The Loco Lion project pushed us further than any build we've taken on before—commercial kitchen, waterproof brewery production space, two tasting rooms, and a second-floor deck that came together mid-build after Nigel and Laura expanded their vision by 1,000 sq. ft.

Their words after it was all done:
"No matter how many times we changed our minds... Tristate was very calm, sat down with us, listened to the problem, came up with a solution, and gave us alternatives. It was always a pleasant discussion."

That's exactly the kind of build we love. Read the full story at the link below 👇

🎉 Project Complete: When Most Contractors Say "Too Big," We Say "Let's Build!"

Last year, we completed this massive 100x180x22 agricultural facility for Pine Hurst Acres in Danville, PA—and it's a perfect example of the large-scale projects that we specialize in.

The reality? Most post-frame contractors cap out at 70-80 feet wide and 20-22 feet high. But this multi-generation family farm needed something bigger, and we delivered:
📐 100 feet wide × 180 feet long × 22 feet high
🏗️ Complete with basement level AND mezzanine
🚪 Seven overhead doors (including massive 24×18 CHI swing-ups)
🌬️ Three cupolas with weathervanes for proper ventilation

The engineering challenges? Significant. The result? A comprehensive agricultural facility that handles everything from equipment storage to grain operations—all under one massive roof.

When your operation demands more than the typical "cookie-cutter" building, you need a contractor with the experience and confidence to engineer it right.

🏭 Hit the ceiling on your business growth?

While most post-frame builders cap out at 70-80 feet wide and 20-22 feet high, your business doesn't have to.

At Tristate, we build up to:
📏 100 feet wide clear span trusses
📐 30 feet high ceiling heights

Why does this matter? Because when you're trying to house large equipment, improve workflows, or plan for future growth, those extra feet make all the difference between a building that works FOR your business versus one that works against it.

Our latest article breaks down:
✅ Why most builders limit building sizes (and how we don't)
✅ Which businesses benefit most from high & wide construction
✅ The real pros and cons of going bigger

After 35 years in post-frame construction, we've learned that bigger isn't just about bragging rights—it's about building smart for long-term success.
