🔧 MK IV Tip of the Week: Check Your Lining Shadowboard Blade**

A simple adjustment can make a big difference in track alignment accuracy.

Before starting work, verify that the **lining shadowboard blade (lining edge)** is **perfectly vertical (perpendicular to the track)**.

**How to check it:**
✅ Position the machine so the **surfacing shadowboard reads zero crosslevel**.
✅ Use a **plumb bob** to verify the lining shadowboard blade is truly vertical.
✅ If it isn't, adjust the **lining shadowboard adjustment screws** until the blade is perfectly vertical.

**Why it matters:**

A shadowboard blade that isn't perfectly vertical will cause the machine's **working zero** to become inconsistent. This can result in:

* Inaccurate lining corrections
* Poor repeatability from job to job
* Unwanted line swings in the track

**Remember:** Even a small amount of error at the shadowboard can translate into noticeable alignment issues in the finished track.

**Pro Tip:** Make this check part of your regular inspection routine, especially after maintenance, transport, or any impact to the shadowboard assembly.
